Nancy, that idea is Megasuperexpialadosius Brilliant. :D
I've already mutilated a fair number of tiny arms doing it the hard way!! To keep myself from screaming, I chalk them up to "education". :(
Eileen
Thanks again Sue Ann :D
How do these compare in weight with other plastic pellets?
Eileen
Thanks, Nancy and Sue Ann, :D
Thanks to you both, I'm now going to proceed with confidence
Yikes, Nancy, that poor piece of mohair has certainly earned its keep!
I guess if you like the fur side but the back's still too stretchy, you could line it with muslin as you do with real fur.
Speaking of which, I discovered that I don't have to spend time carefully marking and then cutting out each muslin piece separately if I glue-stick the fur pieces to a large piece of muslin first, then cut around them. Duh.
You don't need grandbabies to love Toy Story!!
Got to go and teach a sweet Korean girl the difference between gerunds and infinitives before her test tomorrow . . . when the going gets rough, I just tell myself that I'm earning myself another fat quarter! I might have to start keeping a little swatch in my pocket for 'inspiration'.
Eileen
Thanks, Daphne :D
This helps a lot! I don't like the stiffness of "new" mohair. It feels sized or something. I'll be sure to overcast, though I wish I didn't have to . . . . . . lazy
Eileen
Can all you experts out there give me some advice on the effects of washing on mohair? :/
I'm wondering whether washing softens the pile, or changes the finish, or shrinks the backing or what?
When you wash a piece, do you overcase the edges first to prevent fraying?
Hot or cold?
What kind of detergent or soap do you use? Fabric softener? Hair conditioner?
Thanks :D
Eileen
Good idea, Shelli :D
I've got one, but I've never used it for anything but stripping paint.
Listen to the lady--it is very hot!!
Eileen
Absolutely right, Millie and Amanda.
I just emailed a friend visiting London with her husband. They're ok, thank God!
Eileen
Wow, Shelli, Thanks!! I've got to absorb this stuff in little bits, or my brain will explode :D
Eileen
Thanks, Shelli,
I never understood the difference between resizing in inches and resizing in pixels.
So would be possible to resize in more pixels first and then resize that in inches, and get a larger, better quality picture?
Now here's a dumb question : When you resize up in pixels, where do the new pixels come from?
Eileen
Has anyone tried trimming the fur from the seam allowance before sewing? Pros and cons?
Eileen
Great instructions and a great story, Winney!
You remind me of my daughter Caroline's part-time Christmas break job a few years back.
She found herself a novice package wrapper/bow tyer with a constant audience of people eager to pay mucho bucks for her rather amateurish efforts. She used to come home with terrible glue-gun burns!!
Eileen
Eileen
You're so right! :D
It doesn't, and it's very pricy. But since I've got some stashed, and can't see myself doing needlepoint when I could be making bears, I might go ahead and use it up . . .
Eileen
Dilu,
Tapestry wool is finer than regular knitting wool, and comes in glorious colors in 4-6 ply strands. The yarn isn't wound into a skein, it's cut into lengths of about 24" and sold as a twist of about 6 oz.
At least this is the form mine was in when I bought it more than 30 years ago for needlepointing. Then the babies started coming along . . .
Eileen
Thanks, Nancy :D
That looks like a jointed bear on the cover! I'm going to check some other (cheaper for me in CA) sources, but this looks like a great book!
Eileen
Shelli, I love the "lush, ripe" In my case it's overripe, but it's great to have a husband who swears I haven't changed . . . puts things in perspective.
My big dilemma now is whether to let my hair go silver (the kids' vote) or keep coloring it (hubby's vote). I'm inclined to the silver, but hey . . . I don't want to break hubby's illusion. Last time I tried letting it grow out I caught sight of myself in a dept. store escalator mirror and almost screamed--it looked as if I was wearing a bird's nest on top of my head . . .
Eileen
I'm glad you like it. I got curious I had no idea there were any around, outside of libraries. $50 probably isn't a bad price.
Eileen
P.S.
You all know that NO woman, no matter how thin or beautiful, is ever satisfied with herself. Ever ever.
