I too got a mail this morning, and Rose, who is finalist for URSA, also received a TITA nomination...hurray !!

I got so many compliments for Rose, and she is already reserved. Before she goes to her final home, she needs to do some traveling to Japan first.

"Champion on wooden shoes" did not make top 10, but I was very proud to represent the netherlands, and enjoyed being part of the TBOC Challenge very, very much!! It was good to see that so many took time and energy to join, even though the time table for some was very short.

Thank you also to Lynette and TWTBA for orgenizing!!

The bear on the left, Marina, is not crocheted but made from a wonderful X-Long Pile fabric. I wil have this fabric with me at Hugglets.
The other bear, Rose, is compleet crocheted. Her dress I knitted and the roses are embroidered with cross stitch. The hair decoration are little roses, crocheted and attached one at a time.

Thank you so much!!

klein.jpgThanks so much for sharing your work!! I love it!!

I too crochet.. did curtains and doilies and clothes and started to design/sell thread bears and friends in 1999-2000. I made crochet animals for my kids when they were small, but the bears I design and make for the collector are mostly fully jointed, I love to make the floppy jointed or old fashion crochet toys too.  Since I sold many patterns and many of the thread artist today did start with these.. (yes..that long I am around making thread bears, as I started there was not even a hand ful thread animal artist) and I am proud of that.
It brought a whole new bear for the collectors.

As moderator of ThreadAnimal group http://groups.yahoo.com/group/threadanimals, founded by Debbie Nicholas in 2003, I/we (owner and moderators) continue promote crochet bear making. We provide free patterns, challenges and so on. Also needle felting and other fiber arts are discussed and teached in the group.  And the best..joining Thread Animals is free!!

I was nominated with a crochet bear several times, and the top was winning the TITA 2008 with the small crochet bear wearing an OYA lace collar..The big bear won Swiss Teddy Award 2007.. Oya lace is another new, but very old technic, I just had to learn and to to add to my bears. Many recognation and interest I received for teaching Oya..(Thanks to the Oya corsages added to this winning bears, isn`t it funny how one thing can lead to another) and I published ThReAdTeDs Oya-Guide which was first available during the work-shops I teached in USA a few weeks ago.... so much fun!!

Aaarch..reading back the above, I hope it does not sound as bragging .. I just love to crochet and design... and winning a competition is such a big award for recognation of my work.

My bears/work you can see on my website too www.threadteds.com

Maybe see you in ThreadAnimal group soon...lol...you are invited.. I am sure you wil enjoy all crochet animals posted by members.

Hugs,
Berta

No, the TITA is different, you can submit a piece for TITA also to other challenges, like many of us do.

For the Ted Worldwide it says (this year first time): It is not allowed that the submitted objects take part in other competitions or are presented at shows or in teddy bear magazines before the announcing of the TED worldwide winners in March 2009.

This means, the piece you enter to Ted Worldwide, you can not enter in any other challenge, you can not sent a picture to a magazine and you can not display the bear anywere. You have to keep the entry secret. Like Maria, I wonder how many wail follow this rule, but... I think, being aware of the rule you can make out for yourself if you can do this. I think when participating on a challenge you should read the rules and follow up. no matter...even if it not all the rules suits you.. does that make cense?

My news.. ofcourse,
I won one ..uh...hope I don`t brag.. I won 2 Golden Georges !! One for the Climbing Bear and one for Marina, who is also nominated for a TOBY !!

I was soooooo surprised.. even though Maria told me that she thought I would win one..  bear_grin
So sorry you missed out this time Maria... competition is stiff.. so many wonderful entries. For sure it was not your bear.. he is wonderful!!

I entered before and was not nominated before, so that already was a honor. And to be in that special Golden George edition with all nominees..you are in there too Maria.. so cool!!  And now on top of it both my entries turned out as winners...  !!

I normally save my winners, but sold the climbing bear on saturday, as I didn`t expect to win a Golden George for him on saturday evening. The lady picked him up on Sunday and was very happy to have bought a winner.. and I know he went to a wonderful collector and very nice lady!!

The rat is wonderful, Maria!! Alena is a great artist, I too have one of her bears and love him to bits!!

I loved the show, I loved the new location as wel. I think it is better as Munster, though there are differing opinions about this. I already signed up for next year

Now I have a few weeks to prepare for the next shows, Ladbergen and Stratford up Avon... and then.. get ready for USA.. YEAH!!

I am going to participate on 2 shows and thinking about a work-shop. Bobbie offered me a room to hold the workshop..  my thoughts are going to a crochet workshop and/or Oya lace workshop if there is enough interest.

May I ask if here are Teddy Talk members who would be interested in Oya-Lace and/or thread bear workshop??

Please let me know your thoughts?

Thank you!!

TITA_kl.jpgI also received my bear back from Japan. Not opened and with the wonderful troffee!
My name, and the bears name is printed in the troffee..  I am so happy with this troffee, didn`t know how it looked as it is my first bear_grin

I am so sorry your package was opened Maria, happy though the bear was fine. I do not know why some countries are more strict then others, I hear German customs are very strict lately with ALL packages.

See you soon in Rheda.

Berta

I know it already for several months, but had to keep silence until the official announcement in Japan on March 22..
One of my N.O.S.T. (New Old Style Ted) won a TITA award in it`s category.
I am special proud, because it took me over a year to get the design for an old style bear in crochet right... and were I introduced Oya to the bears.
This is the multiple nominee in URSA, Ted World Wide and Readers Choice 2008, and now winner for TITA !!

Thank you everyone for the Congratulations, and thank you also for the caring words I received privat...   everything looks a little brighter now, but stil a long way to go for my sister in law, who got paralysed half ways, from one moment to another, doing a blood cloth in the spine.

Here are the pictures from my nominees:

Marina.jpg

This is Marina, nominated for a Golden George. Marina is also nominated for GT and won a TOBY Industry Choice Award !!

ClimbingBear-kl.jpg

Climbing Bear won 2nd place last weekend in Wiesbaden. I was very pleased to see that the Jury points were good for a first place. To receive the award is decided by public votes, and not by jury though. Still, I am verry happy with the result.

Maria, I aplied for the gala/award evening and see you again soon!!
