What a great compliment!
Sarah,
thanks for the suggestion with the ultrasuede - and also for the picture, the bear is lovely!
I was planning to use this method on one of my bears, but the only eyes I had didn't match (cheap ones.. >.<') so I'm waiting for my order to arrive with new ones; the ultrasuede half-circles are already cut out, although they might be too big. (and they aren't the really thin ones, I think..gah, I only have three colors of ultrasuede - need to buy more, but how to decide on the colors? )So, this technique also wos with onyx beads? I have a pack of black beads (wooden ones, I think) lying around here and was wondering if I could use them, too... I'll give it a go, there are several bears and critters awaiting their finishing touches
Thanks again, Ariane
Hi Ariane,
I think this technique would work for any type of bead you decide to use for your bear's eyes. That's the beauty of creating bears - there's no right or wrong way so try whatever supplies you have.
If your half circles of ultrasuede are too big, just trim them down a bit. I have to do this quite often. The little blue bear in the picture has regular ultrasuede for the eyelids, so it doesn't have to be the thin kind.
Don't worry about not having a huge supply either, you will soon build up as you go along. When I first started out I managed to get a selection of ultrasuede cut-offs from eBay, which was a good way of getting several colours at once without having to buy larger sheets of it.
Good luck with creating your bears' and critters' eyes and don't forget to post some pictures on here.
Hugs,
I lover her! Her expression makes me think she looks a bit put out
Was she upset with the hairdresser...?
She reminds me of they way I felt when I was wee and going to a birthday party. I had hair like Shirley Temple's curls in those days and my mum thought it would be a good idea to put curlers in my hair! I hated it and remember spending a lot of time at the party trying to pull my even tighter curls out!
Fifi looks a lot sweeter with her mad hair though!
Hugs,
Hi Susan,
That is good news that you have found somewhere to live but it's shame that it has come to this. It is odd that it's okay for a caravan to be on the land and not a wooden house.... I think turning your land into a caravan site might not be a bad option - that way you will get some kind of income from it without too much hassle. Is there plenty of space for a few more caravans and tents? It would make sense to try and make the land work for you if you could.
A lot of people in the UK seem to be taking the camping option more these days. When we're away on kitesurfing weekends we've chatted to quite a lot of people who are new to camping, but for them it's a good option as it's cheaper than hotels and they can have more long weekends etc away with the family with very little overall cost.
Best of luck with whatever you decide and don't let the buggers get you down. And you're right of course when you say that you can make a home anywhere. We've moved 6 times in the last 12 years and only one of those moves was our choice, but we've always just got on with enjoying where we are. It's the people that make a home, not the building, so you've both got the right idea in seeing it as a new adventure. Life's too short to dwell and look back on things.
Sending you lots of good wishes....
He's a great looking bear and you should be proud of your work on him. I love the expression you have given him - almost like he's been up to something and knows that you know.... if you know what I mean.
Hugs,
They are both wonderful. I'm sure their new owner can't fail to be happy with them. Their toys are fab too.
Hugs,
Two great elephants!
I hope they find a new home together, it seems a shame to split them up; they look well suited together.
Hugs,
She's wonderful. Love the colours and that oh so perfect nose
Great work!
He's one cute little guy! I just love that face of his and those big eyes....
Hugs,
Oh Susan! I'm just doing some catching up since we got back from our hols and am so sorry to read what has happened with you. I can't believe it's that easy for the government to force you to destroy your home and on top of this your car has gone too. What is the reason against wooden houses...? The mind boggles...
Would they let you put a big caravan on your land instead...? Turn your land into a campsite and have lots of tent pitches and see what the president makes of that... They surely wouldn't be able to argue about you bringing extra revenue into the area.
At least your husband and you have each other (and the dogs) and it can only make you stronger. I really hops things improve for you soon. Surely it can only get better from here.
A quote from Winston Churchill... "Difficulties mastered are opportunities won."
Keep your good old British peckers up and weather the storm. If it feels like you are going through hell, just keep on walking, you'll get to the other side...
Sending you lots of hugs and lots of good luck...

Sweet little lady. She looks like she should be meeting her friend for lunch

Wow! What a colour! Her name suits her too. She's lovely and worth all the effort you put into her.

Fantastic!
I saw your rabbits at the Stratford event and they are even more amazing in the fur. Put simply; they are works of art
Lovely little bear! Such neat work too for one so small. The skirt is a nice touch
