At 2am this morning I had the insane idea that I need an instant collection of ATC's. For those of you who are not aware I took over as Editor of Australian Bear Creations a few months ago and am trying to add a few new things.

One of the (stupid??) things I volunteered myself for is to try and resurrect a Bear COmpetition at the Sydney Stitches and Craft show. The doll comp as suvived but the bear comp died due to a lack of someone to organise it. I decided that I would make it more of a gallery show than a compeition, though and I will be setting it up with cards stating who the artist is etc and someone will be there at all times to show the bears to any collector who is interested and if the artists provides them also business cards. This is unusual in Australia competitions.

However this is a bit off track at 2am this morning I decided that as the show is a general craft show with scapbooking and beading and art supplies in general etc it would be great to have a display of ATC's and a flyer explaining all about them and where they can be viewed and bought etc.

One problem ........I don't have ONE ATC.........

So please TT's can those of you who are generous and great please "trade" a card with me.

I promise I will make a card a send it back......it may just be a little while as due to taking over the mag my life is a bit hectic....but if you inlcude a self addressed envelope I will make a card, add some stamps and post it back, hopefully by next christmas!!

It just would be great to make the Australian bear collectors and crafty people more aware of ATC's etc and as I will be doing more shows this year as Editor, I'd love to travel with a collection and raise interest in Australia.

The more I can turn into collectors the better....

The show is on in the first week of February so I need to have a "collection" by then..........can anyone help me.

Please, please..pretty please

Hi DIlu

Can I beg a question do non-bear and golly UFO's count......I keep trying other crafts and then get half way through and get dragged back to bear projects. The only UFO bears I have are ones I've done in workshops that aren't my patterns and I don't "feel" anything for....I did the technique I wanted to learn and left the bear as it was.....do they count?

But I'm willing to join you just to clear out the mess....I think?  I have a half knitted jumper from when I was 25.......I'm now 47.  bear_grin  bear_grin  I don't think it will fit anymore anyway even if I finish it!!  I was a lot thinner in those days!!!

Hey my work hours always take in midnight Aussie time......sick Dad and 6 year old daughter, making bears, writing about bears and generally doing wife things and Mum things. Plus I'm still in my walking boot due to ruptured ligaments....so everything takes twice as long.....who gets to bed???  Not me!!  Just make sure the liquid flows my way and that spell check is working

bearhug07

hhhmmm............doesn't do it for  me....I agree great for kids but I can't see it being cute and cuddly and having the tactile feel of a "real" teddy bear. People will buy it and maybe get hooked on the hobby and want tot take if further which maybe good for us.....or be so disappointed in the project they give it all away. I don't think it will affect sales of bears to collectors in any way and I can't see anyone making more than one or two of these kits.......too boring.

A person with real craft talent would never get hooked on these and those who are only a bit interested in craft wouldn't stick at it any longer than one or two kits.

bearhug07

WOW  I dodn't think London got tornadoes either. Talk about weather changing the world around. Hope Aus never gets them.......at the moment we only get tiny little windstorms we call willy-willies.....the worst they'll pick up are bird avaires, garden sheds and light stuff.  nad they are pretty rare as well....I've only ever seen one and that was in the desert near Ayres Rock.

bearhug07

How about using flex limb and then needle sculpting the legs into position, I have done this for a bear kneeling on her knees but never tucked in like that.......

I think you will find issues with stuffing the "bottom" leg as such and the bear will tend to topple to the side....you may have to under suff the body in some way on the lower half.......or use plastic pellets in there to "shape" the side a bit ......if that makes sense.

There will lots of problems to over come good liuck.

bearhug07

Go get em Bronwen......last school holidays my 6 year old decided she wanted to learn the flute....so older cousin handed over his old flute to me. Lara is tiny and she used the head to learn to blow and finally got that down pat.......then she wanted the whole thing put together and to play it properly. I showed her how it went together but I just couldn't see her holding it and letting the mouth piece to her mouth....I left the room as she struggled as I felt frustrated.

I short while later I heard some music and actually assumed that she had taken the head off again....walked back into the room and she was playing  it ....sort of....properly......she haas struggled and won......she had found a way to hold it properly and get it in position.....and she is 6. Give them the credit and let them try and they will WIN.

I have always understood the name of the G0lliwog came from Bertha Upton who wrote the first books aboout him and they were illustrated by her daughter.

However on the weekend, as per-usual when the question of "What do you do/" came up at a party and I mentioned bears etc the question arose of where they came from. So usual story about Roosevelt. Then the question about Gollies cam up and I gave the Bertha Upton answer.

An American at the the Aussie party became quite aggressive and told me basically that I was an ignorant Aussie and the real story was that Robertson Marmalade Jam's son toured the south duing the "slave" era and saw the children palying with rag dolls their mothers had made. Their accent being rather broad the word "dolly" sounded like "Golly" and he brought the name back and invented it.

I found his aggression quite amusing and his defense of the "worlds ignorance of the true origan of the word" even funnier, however I am now quite curious as this is the first I have ever heard of this story. Has anyone else heard of it?

bearhug07

HI

I know Patti and Graham and most of there patterns use a 4 -5 mm seam allowance which is about 1/4in.....so go ahead on that basis.

bearhug07

HI Everyone

No you are one issue behind 12-4 just hit the stand here this week and I'm just putting the last touches to 12-5 (my first issue all on my own) now....so you are not that far behind at all.

I'll think I'll hide in January when "my" issue hits the stands....so many of like the magazine and I've made some changes..... bear_grin    bear_ermm

bearhug07

Just to update you all.........and thank you for all the hugs.....

The police went around to see him and .......can you belive this!!!  He assaulted the female officer who was there!!!!!  There were two officers apparently 1 male 1 female and he appears to have taken exception to the female officer and attacked her.

He obviously has problems with women.......I did wonder why he picked on my rather than the man he was have an argument with.

So at this stage it looks like I don't have to go to court as he's up for assaulting a police officer..........what a total nutter.

The police are having hin assessed as even they think he has a real problem. although they agree it is not readily apparent on first sight.

Anyway I'm now fairly Ok .....except my inner lip feels bruised and sore when I clean my teeth and the scratches on my arm are a bit messy.

bearhug07

Oh Gemma I love that...........normally I would have too but I was hanging on to the door trying to keep my balance and NOT land on that ankle again.....my doctors threatened surgery if I hurt it again......and I can't afford the time in hospital.......

BUt I did yell at him that he was a disgrace to all men and a weasely coward and that I hoped his wife hated him......don't ask me where that came from ......it seemed like a good thing to say at the time..

bearhug07

Yes we went to the police station and they took all out statements....so they will go to the address attached to the car rego and see whatthe guy has to say for himself.....I'm not sure about pressing charges....with Lara being only 6 and my Dad so ill I don't know that I have time to go to court about it all.....so I;ve told the police that if they think it's an aberration....he's had bad and a really bad day for some reason to let it go but if he is generally an aggreessive "sh**t" then I will as someone needs to pull his head in.

The policeman was lovely and looked at my big "viking" boot and asked me why I didn't kick him in a personal spot with it..."that would have laid him out until we got there" was his comment....

And the really bad bit to all this..........I'm trying to lose weight and have banned chocolate from the house and so I couldn't have any comfort food when I got home..........  bear_cry  bear_cry  bear_cry

bearhug07

After dropping my daughter at school I went to the local shops to Spotlight (big material, craft type store) and was just walking in when two men started an argument about how one parked his car blocking the entrance. I paused as one man was really upset , so trying to calm him I asked what the problem was, he told me and then pointed to another man and siad he was in the inconsiderate driver.

I turned to the first man and said "Yes he's being really rude, but that's just life these days"......the driver then strode over to me and hit me in the face and screamed "Take that bitch!"

Now two weeks ago I ruptured all the ligamnets in my left ankle and currently have a large cast like walking boot on my left ankle and it has a rounded bottom to help you walk.....so guess what ankle a fell back on..I then had to grab the doorway of the shop to keep my balance....so this physco nut is then  shoving and pushing and screaming at me to get out of his way "Because I'll drop you, you bitch"....

The first man is trying to grab him and he hits him another women jumps in and he backhands her to the ground.....it was just mad. He finally jumped in his car and left when another women yelled that she had his rego number and was calling the police.

And this guy is about 65- 70 and looked like your favourite uncle......

So now I have a bruised mouth, scratched up one arm where he grabbed me and he had his car keys in his hand, my ruptured ligaments are aching and burining. Plus 2 hours in the police station giving statements.

THEN....I get home and go to upack the dishwasher and a carving knife falls out and stabs me in the top of my 'good" foot.

Plus I'm allergic to ticks and I got one on the weekend so I'm just recovering from throwing up and being sick all weekend.

So that's my 3 things....I'm still shaking and felling sick....hubby's phoned 3 times from work to see if he needs to come home but I'm going to sit and sew and then pick Lara up from school..........

.....and take her to her martial arts class!!!!!!   If I didn't have this ankle I think I'd join in today!!!

Who wants to buy a lottery ticket with me?????? bear_grin  bear_grin  bear_grin

hi Shantell

I love wool for stuffing the muzzel and then change to plyfill for the rest of the head....that way I get the muzzel firm for doing a nose and the behind the eyes where it is part wool and part polyfill is then easy to needle scultp as it part firm amd part soft...

I also use wool over the tops of the joints in the arms and legs as it "holds' there and covers the joint firmly .....I often have  up to 3 different types of fill in my bears of I use glass or pellets as well......but nerlay all have wool and polyfill.

if yo check with the Dept of Fair Trading in your state you will find all the legal guidelines laid out for you, with all the answers you are looking for.....you must do it legally or you can be liable for all sorts of things believe it or not.....so check with yoru State Govt.

Sandra

bearhug07

report her to the Department of Fair Trading......also report her to her web site server, what she is using her webiste for is illegal and they can take down her site, talk to your solicitor as well............but start with the Department of Fair Trading as she is misrepresenting her goods and that is most certainly illegal and they will act on your behalf.

OOOOHHHHH Daphne I've had the same experience but being of a more volatile temperament I proceeded to inform the idiot that the only job he was capable of was acting in as a  Neanderthal in B grade movies.......and then he'd have trouble learning his lines which would consist of "Grunts".  Another time I very calmly and nicely, took over the job of packing my own gracies and lecturing him, as a mother, the whole time on how to do the job properly. Finally the manager arrived to find out what the hold up on the line was so I proceeded to lecture HIM on his duties as a mananger and informed him his staff should be properly trained.

I have proceeded to do this 2 more times......apparently I now have a rep at our local store, another mother at the school works there, I am apparently pointed out to new staff and thery are told to pack properly for me or suffer the consequences.........the Manager doesn't like to be lectured in the middle of the store apparently...... and the offending staff memner who draws my attention so that the manager suffers one of lectures is severly dealt with ..by the manager.
