OK but the pieces will be really really small if it is a 4" diameter head- I'll do my best and e-mail it tomorrow....Just finished moving stuff back into the new sewing room...I can hardly stand it. Everything smells so new and fresh....there is so much room! I can sit at my sewing table and watch the peas grow!. I can find my sewing table~!
I can not only find my sewing table and identify it as a sewing table, but I can walk straight to it without risking life and limb!
Simple pleasures for simple minds WoooHoooo!
So tomorrow morning bright and early I will guesstimate and print up the pieces and scan them into e-mail and there you have it....Okeydokey!
And as for Miss Jane I will send you a medium size pattern and you can up or down it as you please.
i DO LOVE THIS PART OF THE 21ST CENTURY!!!!! Faxing, emailing, computer chat.....friends in England Scotland Ireland Germany ( I had them before) Sweden, Canada, Australia New Zealand here.....wow
isn't it amazing says she who remembers black and white tv and the original tv remote. Oh and portable phones that weighed 10 lbs....and gas that cost 25 cents a gallon.....
It's enough to make you ditzy
Dilu
Don't let the present get you too down honey....the future will be better...prayers and gollyhugs to you.....lots of prayers

Judi
I remember well the post where you shared....we cried for your pain then, and do again now. I love your mom's scrabble letters. And I know your sister is where she needs to be now, safe and happy, because you didn't come by your belief and your spirit by yourself.....your mom and dad taught you, encouraged you and loved you all your life, and therefore they did the same for Lorna. God bless her, but more especially, God bless your family and ease the pain they are going through now....I pray it ends soon.
Daphne....silly girl.....as far as I know, I am healthier now than 5 years ago.....then I didn't give 2 cents for my chances. Now, with gollybearing I have simply to much to do to think about "shuffeling off this mortal coil"
A nickel to the first person to tell me who wrote that!
No, what brought it up was Sherryl bringing it up regarding all her
Steiffs and not wanting them to end up in the county dump!
Yikes!!!!
So that's what got me started....also don't forget I am a psych nurse- we tend to think things in an off kilter wonky fashion.....where is Penny Poodles I miss her. But not to worry..
I think the answers have been very interesting. I am going to print it up when all is writtern and done and give it to
Sherryl so she can get everyone's imput.
She will feel better about all of this when she deals with it. And as Judi's family's story tells us we do not know the moment....
Now! Onward and upward to something cheerier!
Who's gonna win the nickel?
Dilu
You get a whole dime if you can tell me the character who said it and what speech it is from......come on my British friends.......you can do it!!
:D:D:D:D:D:D
They sound a little like pop beads......anyone old enough to remember pop beads. I used to love those things.
I think I'll buy a set to check them out. Thanks Judi
Dilui
Hayley....
You are right! So Right! I feel the same way-cuz I don't get out and socialize in downtown O'Brien. Well there isn't socialization for drug free clean with all her teeth middle aged golly maker like me!
This is scarry- and off the subject, but a greater than 50% average of folks in this little burg, don't have all their teeth and the primary consumables are beer, the kinds that come in 24 packs, and MJ.
If I tried to share a golly or ask a question on a bear I would be locked up for having lost my mind!:lol::lol::lol:
And since my hunny has sent almost every minute today revamping the sewing room I can hardly wait! This is really better than Christmas.
I have cupboards, I have carpet, I can breathe......when it's all done I'll post pictures, but I am sooooo excited....
but like Eileen says- it does tend to be a solitary vocation.
Thank you al for being so nice to all of us, and I feel your kindness every single day!
I think that is why it was so special to meet Laure and Werner and Winney and Donna....STOP LURKING DONNA....COME OUT AND PLAY!
dillydallydaisydo :P;):)
I'm getting anxious.....it's been a week.....now taking into conderation she probably didn't really leave the forest post office until afternoon....Medford the next day......Portand the next day.....and then 4-7 days......she has to be there by Friday....don't you think?
Dilu
My friend Sherryl has about $15 thousand in Steiffs and "artist" bears. She is concerned because she is convinced that her kids will just through them away when the inevitable happens.
I told her to have it stipulated in her will.....the bears don't get thrown away they get sent to Christies or Southebys and auctioned off and the money goes wherever....college funds for grand kids whatever.
I have a small fortune in supplies, mohair, fabric, etc.....as I am sure all the rest of you do....and a couple Stieffs and a couple artist gollys....so what do we do?
I told my honey to give everything to someone.....we will know when the time comes....who will use the stuff and be happy to have it....and since he gave me the golllies and bears he knows their worth....but
is there a better way to handle this?
Dilu
Oh Oh Jane.......another thing to worry about.....Nosocomial infections....they are wretched! Now I pray even harder....it s scarry to have to go to a hospital that has infection control; problems.....
Are you listening America? One of the major problems with universal health care....the incentive is lost when there are no choices.
Walking bags of water.....hmmmm......just as long as none of us turn into walking bags of leaking water and really need our Huggies and Pampers!
Yikes!
I love the mental image this elicits, Judi.....thank you :lol::lol:
Remember ladies; we must do our Kegel excersises lest we become our grandmothers......:D:D
Dilu
Hey you guys!!!
I feel like a nidgit! That's kind of a ninny and idiot rolled into one.
At your fabric stores they have wonderful marking pens that are air erasable or water erasable....Like for Maries white bears.....After I sew and stuff I just spritz the seams with water- like a spray bottle- and the blues dissappears.
quilters use these all the time....just check on a scrap before you use to make sure.
I have yet to have the water erasable one not erase though. On fur or fabric.
I'm sorry I didn't think to mention this earlier. I also use it on my pastel fabrics or what I call my Kool ade fabric.
Try it for marking fabrics you are concerned about-those pens are great
Dilu
I , I just checked out that site- great pictures and it is exactly what we are already doing.....I've been bolting simply because I am not fond of trying to bend heavy cotter pins even with the tool.
The only differance is we do not use the plastic coated wire....
Hubby says he thinks it costs about $0.25 per armature.....When he saw how much the commercial ones were he was hapy to give it a try...
Try it Winney...it really is pretty neat!
Dilu
hI wINNEY-
It is cheaper....I do not wrap the whole wire, but I have a case of surgical tape left over from my home health days and I use it to wrap the hand ent....which on the wolligoggins has to fit down one of the fingers on the b ig ones. On the little ones I fold the the wire back on itself
I think I would feel better soldering the commercial ones before using them
The first ones he made for me were 14 gauge but it is too heavy and doesn't bend as well....
slowly I get to my dream to have gollikins hanging from the ceiling....welll no not really- but dancing all over the place
I had the big ones from Edinburgh come apart on me----the ones with the pink foam. so I don't trust them. He has to solder them before I try them again.
On the teds I am not so worried, cuz the arms are bigger in diameter than the same size golly-there is lots of room for padding but the gollies need a little more care-
oh well
I didn't know about the link everyone is talking about so I think I'll print it up and give it to the armature maker
Thanks guys!
Dilu
Oh Golly-gee-whiz!
I can't get the copied pics to paste ......hmmmmm
Since I got them up once I suspect I can again.....but boy am I sorry you al are missing these pics.....Laure's bear is worth the extra effort though, so let me fool around.....
21st century-pookins!
Dillydally
I'll let you all know as soon as pics are back up! Somebody thinks he needs to be fed and it isn't the cat or the dog!
Dilu
I think I can fix this.....give me about 15 min.......
ok it took 2 hours.....soooo what's an hour and 45 minamongst bear friends?:lol:
Marie,
Sewing machine killer?
Hmmmm
Sewing Samurai :lol::lol:
I keep hoping to here that MIMI made to you Marie.....so much for the post office web site! Ha 4-7 days my aunt Fristina's foot!
Dilu
Hi Shari....my hunny used crimp lugs and then soldered them as well and he used 14 gauge wire. They worked really well...unfortunetly for him cuz now he's 'in the business for me' :)
I had bought some at Edinburgh but I didn't like the little ones and the ones wrapped in foam were not dependable. He had to go through and solder all of them because they would pull apart.
Hope this helps....
Dilu
Jane
send me the waist, hip, tum measurements for your bear/doll or whoever wants the pattern and I'll print it up and e-mail it to you
Rita is this a 4 inch bear or a 4 inch doll? If you also take the waist hip and tum measurements I can size it accordingly
but if these will be used for bears I'll size up a couple more inches because,as we all know, bears have bigger brains than their same size counter parts in the doll world-that's why their heads are bigger than a dolls......
I am right....aren't I?
Dilu
Paula,
Are you using a new bear for your avatar....He just jumped out at me.....wow...so cute
Dilu
wellllll
You are right, it isn't a big house....It is less than 1000 sq. feet. The living room and kitchen are all one-But I love the kitchen because it is so easy to work in and since there is only one wall I can see everything going on in the living room. The only straight walls are in the center. My dad used to tell me that it is better to live in a round house because ;"the devil can't catch you in a corner lassie girl!"
The circumference is 40 feet and the inside highest place at the top is 15 feet.
It is made out of concrete and rebar and is unbelievably energy efficient. Our winter heating bill was 1 cord of wood- $140.00 and in the summer with the smallest window air conditioner Sears had it the electricity only goes up to $40-$50 a month.
We found it on the internet when we were searching for the right home, and when my hubby showed me the picture......that was that.
Because of the design it had been on the market for about 7 years and seemed unsaleable and because the builder was getting awfully desperate we got it for $20.000 lesss than asking price. There were problems needing fixing which suited us just fine, cuz it meant we could do it the way we wanted.
Because we are in the forest I can't have much of a front yard.....the deer like to eat sooo many things....I know I am safe with Lavender, daffys and iris- so that's about all I have in the front....the fenced in area is where I get to go garden crazy....this year 8 rosebushes....climbers for the fences, and smellers for potporee....(sp)
Its a fun house and we are really enjoying it....and in my mind it is a house that screams Teddies and Gollies....
Thank you for the compliment-Jennifer Laing...wow....my makeup must have been really good that day!;)
dilu
oops....forgot to spell check
I don't know guys....I still see the picture. Maybe Johanna can help us, but it is only 7:36 am on Monday here, so i don't expect her back to Intercal until later!
Dilu
Jane,
aww honey....I know that pain is just simply ungodly....I have seen patients in such pain from the gallbladder that they would just as soon die. Fortunately, once the pesky little devil is out, they are glad they didn't
If they do the surgery lapascopically (key hole) you will have a couple of 1 inch slits on your tumtum. They will fill you up with gas which causes the fat tissue to separate from the internal area.....that way the doc can see what he is doing on the monitor.
It really would be the preferred method to have the surgery-it is easier to heal from and you are up and moving around as soon as your head clears enough to move around.
Traditional surgery gives you that nasty 6-8 inch scar and is much more difficult to heal from.
While you are trying to heal try to cut as much fat out of your diet as you possibly can, read the labels and avoid anything that sounds like fat....the less fat in your diet the less pain you will experience...and the less your poor gall bladder will continue to flare up.
Now, the same tips go for this surgery as Rita's
as soon as you can walk do....gogogogogo....it will help move the gas they use to clear out of your system sooner.....post surgery is the only time we ladies are allowed to compete with the teenage boys for the loudest, grossest .....welll, anyway you need to move the gas out
Drink water....plain old fashioned, unsweetened, unflavored, un tea'd and uncoffee'd water-----to clear your system of all the anesthesia and also to help heal.
I actually had a patient tell me once that she was allergic to water!
To my credit I did not laugh....in her face....in her room.....
Since we are 75% water and more if we are fat, cuz fat tissue holds water really well as well as fat- we can't be allergic to water.
I am so terribly sorry that you are on a waiting list. There are positives to health care like you have in England, but, those of us in America should be very grateful that the waiting list for surgery hasn't hit managed care here like it has for you folks.
I pray your wait will be very short, your surgery an astounding succsess and that you will have no more pain!
Dilu
Hayley.....believe it or not that is MY house and I get to share it with the golies, the cats the dog the parrot oh yeah....and my hunnybunny!
Dilu
Well you can see by the quarter some of the sizing measurement wise I got under 2.5" long, but he is very delicate
hmmmmm my hunnybunny says that Aussie quarters are about the same size as US quarters.....but I wonder, how does he know?
Dilu
Danni
Great topic.
I can find something wonderful about each and every person's work, I can feel the finger pricks and the joy and the confusion and the disappointment. And actually each and every bear/golly maker here can as well.....but when it comes to true inspiration:
The bears a person creates may not be the inspiration for me, but rather it is a deep appreciation for the work and artistic endeavor that I recognize. There are bears that I wouldn't want to own, but the artist is fabulous, with a personality that doesn't quit and a work ethic that is unsurpassed.
Does this make sense?
My father was an artist. I did not like every picture he ever created, but I watched him work, all my life, and I saw what he gave to his art. I listened to his admonitions, " if its worth doing lassie...." i watched him create unbelievable work that he was dissatisfied with, and listened with astonishment to his critique of himself....he always thought he could do better, while I thought it was wonderful or dreadful (depending on my mood for the day) ( I truly could be an abnoxious brat at times)
When I was a pianist I learned what he was saying to be true, I was never "perfect" and had to learn to accept imperfection as a part of my daily life....the frustration was enormous because music is not as correctable as a painting-I don't get to go back during a concert and 'do it over' :)
I think what I am trying to say is that the great bearmakers that we see in books, at shows (i have yet to go to one but October is coming) and have met here at this site have a personality trait that is, for me, inspiring. That is a tenaciousness to learn more, try harder, do it again, ask questions, seek advice, and always try to improve.
Some of these bear makers are in the 60'sa, some in their 20'sa because age doesn't matter, it is attitude.
The other thing I notice with the inspiring artists, is that THEY don't think they are "great" even if all the rest of us do. They think they are just them, whoever and whatever that means to them....and they keep on going.
That is what I find inspiring.
Also I believe that the greats are generous and helpful. They share their "secrets, they have a confidence and generosity in their spirit that allows them to give to others and help others along the road to greatness. There isn't room for small mindedness in greatness no matter it be art, music, politics, writing, whatever. Truly great people aren't trying to prove they are great and are only too willing to help others.
OK....as usual I go on too long....:)
