I make tinybears, not just gollies, and usually 3"....I draw the sewing line on the fabric, cut around it in a oval- don't cut out the piece yet.
Then I sew and trim excess fabric...

If I have used a loose weeve and am worried about too much manipulation I will use fraycheck- otherwise I don't worry

Also I use 1.5 stitch and tighten my tension a little-  then making the ittybittys on the machine is easy....

I do hand sew the gussets on the little ones though.

Try it- it'll make your sewing experience more pleasant....

Also I use an open toe type foot on the machine so that I can see the sewing line really well....

let us know if this works for you...

Dilu  being serious for a change  bear_tongue

Dilu

Yayyyyyy Danni!!!

Wow- we couldn't be prouder of you, hip hip hoooray!

Daphne thank you so much for the link-many of us would never ever have known....

and I'm a betting Danni wouldn't have told :lol::lol:

You bet she's a rising star!

Hugs and golly giggles to you two for sharing with us

Dilu

Hi ya wanda-

we are a motley but nice crew aren't we....know what would make us better?

Having you here more often....

Sorry it's a dog eat dog world out there.....your'e not a nurse are you?

I remember an article 20 years ago where the title was
'why do nurses eat their young?"

Yuck....but true.....I watched it happen time and again and you know what we have now?  A really bad nursing shortage.

Mom was right...nursing is recession proof.

But in truth....aren't most all jobs like that now?  And izn't it really sad?

What to do?

My diagnosis is that there are simply not enough gollys in the world and when life gets you down....make a golly!!!:D:D

Dilu

Hip Hip Hoooooraayyy for our Louise!

I just couldn't be happier for you!  Great!

Now....enough celebrating, put down the champagne and get to work-with 4 of your babes sold you have to get that inventory back up!

Tha't's and e-mail I would frame!

Hugs

Dilu

Shelli

I can't help you but I surely do want to see this collaberative purse!

It is sounding better and better!

Dilu

Dilu

Hey Daphne

The bear with his head in his lap?  Do a tableaux......I see a guillotine
and perhaps a trifold hat with a feather?

dilu-the believer in quick executions and not starving our furry friends-

I still don't like that bear....I think it is because it wasn't my pattern-I had bought it and it wasn't me....or him....

hmmm......

Dilu

Oh OH OH !! Hayley

Thank you thank you thank you....Sue Ann you and I are doing OK!

I loved taking the tour and the daughter has a wicked sense of humor-I wonder if she makes bears?

On a more serious note:

I had this idea to hang the mohair on skirt hangers- can usually get 3 pieces mohair per hanger.....then I thought I would get garment bags from Walmart to put the skirt hangers into-but maybe I don't need to?

are there any moths or bugs or whatever that like to munch on mohair along the same lines as wool?   I try to buy the sales-and usually do not have the slightest idea what I am going to do with it, but like Sue Ann I just know its something I have to have.....(storing up for a rainy day)  Do I need to be worried about long term storage of mohair and what about mink?  I have a wonderful mink coat that will make several even more wonderful teddies....but currently it is draped

Granted it is draped in a manner fitting for mink, but none the less, draped is draped.

Thank you everyone for wonderful laughs and great pictures....

I will most assuredly show you pics when the project gets done.

But, I am worried, will the room be so organized I can not find anything?

I've heard that happens....

Worrisome

Dilu:P

Dilu

Ahhh Sue Ann,

Isn't he just as cute as can be.....actually afyer looking again I'm thinking he's a she....

doesn't matter....the bear is precious

Dilu

Dilu

yayyyyyyy Winney!

I shall use your 'scientific' findings as my reason for what is all around my spot in the living room.  The conscession I make is that every morning I vacuume and before bed I clean everything up in the living room.....:)

Of couse you know he will laugh at me and then demand to know who did this study...."a bear maker?  a quilter?"  he will say.:D

Ah well....domestic bliss.....he really is an incredably good sport about all this....and he does tighten my joints for me....so who am I to complain?

Kirsten, love your baby there, and it is so terribly cat-like to be on top of the fabric....

my 2 fur babies are usually on either side of me, or around my neck, which is ok in the winter.....but in the summer, when it sizzles?  UGH:/

Clare we want to see pics when you get set up....hope yu are more organized than the rest of us, but.....

And Laura-how is it possible your station looks so neat and tidy- and I bet you could find anything you want at any time?  Impressive.

I just go into the sewing room, close my eyes and wait for what I need to call to me....it is very dangerous in there.

Sue Ann; lets see your room......

Dily

Dilu

Rita
honey in my book we already are the besst of friends-but be careful wallowing in the  sewing room-it could be dangerous.

Winney- I can not remember the last time I ironed when it was't related to dressing a bear or golly-as you can see the ironing board is trapped!:D

I am using the kitchen counter with a towel under it

Oh dear

I keep telling my honeyhubby how absolutely excited I am about this workroom project.....(I don't want him to forget!)

At least the livingroom is liveable-

Hugs

Dilu

Dilu

Thanks Eileen,
I didn't know about the differant size disc idea..but it really does stand to reason!

I'm usually sitting so standing to reason doesn't happen all that often over here.

Dilu

Dilu

OK  I have some truly inspiring pics for you, Clare,

This is a what not to do-(although in my own defense the room is the size of a walk in closet in most homes, and we are getting the cabinets this week to change this, never-the-less

Have a really good laugh

I have three of those floor lights that are full spectrum-like OTT-  that way I can put them anywhere, around wherever I am working.

It is sooooo gloooomy in Oregon in the Winter that we have the lights going all the time.  When I am not sewing I bend them up so they reflect light off the wall or ceiling.

Can't have enough light!

When the sewing room gets done, (finally) next week-I can hardly wait- I understand I will also get shop-lights above the sewing table.

Not quite as exciting as a yard of Mohair-but I am happy all the same

Does any one have any unfinished bears lurking in the closet-In quilting we called them UFOs- and everyone had a quilt that they feel out of love with and hadn't finished.

Does this happen in the bear world?

I haven't finished the Purple Peta Princess yet.....but it hasn't been long enough to count as a UFO, but I did throw a bear out after salvaging the eyes.  There was just something about him that I couldn't get past, and I don't even know what it was.....I know it's awful, but I just couldn't love him, nor could I finish him.

So does any one else want to own up to having a 'bad' bear lurking in their past?

I probably wouldn't have thrown out now, but I have a little more experience now, this bad experience was in the beginning.

Any way- Like we really needed another topic, I just wondered if this was normal or an abberation?

Dilu-  the dreadful bear killer......don't hate me bear_sad

Dilu

Yeah Daphne!

coming up with a name for Meg to contact!  This is real networking!

Dilu

Dilu

Thank you everyone....they are fun to do  I will have a wiked witch by October....maybe she will cackle and scream I'm melting....I'm melting....

or

maybe she will be saying; "Poppies, that'll make them sleep!"

And maybe there will be a tin man golly and a lion golly and a Dorothy....

Thank you Danni and Daphne!  I have ideas-  I think I need to jot some of these down before I forget!

Just told my hunnyhubby and he liked your idea!

Gottra get to work:lol::lol::lol:

I haven't really worked in 5 years!  This isn't work- this is too much fun for one gal to have!

Dilu:D

Dilu

Sue Ann:

you certainly have bragging rights about that daughter of yours!

Jane:

hot?!?!?!?  Boy does this seem backward.  We are freezing here, and it is dismal...were supposedto get 65 inches of rain but this year feels like 100.

Meg:

We really are glad you came....thank you for posting your website-  what fun..

Dilu

Dilu

Oh my my my look at these gorgeous living ........babes

And they say that real women can't be 'built' like Barbie.  HA!

You guys had fun and amused the rest of us.....I checked out your site Shelli, and was tempted to go to 'ugly' doll.....but I have too many gollies dancing around the living room right now

demanding clothing and shoes!

I feel like the rabbit.....late for a very important date.....

Dilu

Welcome MJ!!!

Welcome and it is about time you came out to play!
Keep posting and get to know everyone and before you know it others from your area will start too....

This Friday we are having an impromptu Northern California/Southern Oregon meeting......and it would never have happened if we hadn't started sharing here...

It is a lot of fun and everyone here is very supportive and helpful....

So come on all you North Carolina belles and beaus.....we got some one here who wants to really play....come out and keep this person company!

Oh dear, mj, I am hampered by not knowing.....are you a he or a she?

I don't want to say he if you're a she

or she if you're a he

but I am hoping that you will like playing with all of us and come back often and share-

So00000  what kind of bears do you do?  What kind of gollies do you do?
do you do minis. hugies, do you dress or not dress....(the bears and gollies silly)
Do you collect, do you have a favorite bear?  lets see the bear and you tell us about it...

There is so much to learn here!

I do tend to run on.....

Ask anyone

Glad you are here!

Dilu

Dilu

Oh Claire

I am so sorry you are moving to a smaller workroom.  I will take a picture of mine and post it-but it is to make you laugh, not to use for guidance!

My honeyhubby said that next week we go to Lowes!  Yippee!  :):)

Dilu

Dilu

Hayley

let me know when you hit the Pacific Northwest of the US- we'll go out and wave to you!

Dilu:P

Dilu

Judi, aww honey,

you know how I feel already.....but I have to say, which I didn't before, how proud I am of you because you do not quit!

You are a joy to know.....even just a tiny bit here on the site.....

PS  You sent way too much in shipping....so I told Sue Ann not to add any shipping and the balance will be added to the baby bottles our local pregnancy center gives out, that we fill up with change, to help the little gals in our community who get themselves in a pickle and don't want an abortion.  Hope that's OK with you....

You are stronger than the person who was unkind, because HE who is in you is stronger than all.....and HE will never let you down.

Dilu

Silly Dilu challanged the great folks at Intercal to have a boutique with one of a kind eyes!:lol::lol::lol:

How about we change the challange to sets of eyes....

I think our bears would have to be winking all the time if we only had one of a kind eyes!
