if I look like my avatar golly I am in really big trouble here........

I would personally prefer to think that I don't....but then everyone here at the gollyhouse lives in their own bizaar world anyway......

especially the cats.....

the dog............

the hubby.......................................

Dilu

WOW!  did he just get to Washington?  We sent him off a good month ago!  I would like to know what he was doing all that time.....Was he taught bad habits by the gollies?  One has to wonder.....

Hi Louise, Tami and Tina,

Louise I agree, she is just as nice as the day is long....and i don't know how she gets so much done.  so your story surely doesn't surprise me-I think she would be gracious to everyone in any situation....Lucky you getting to visit.  I keep urging her to come here to TT, but I don't think she has yet....i wish she would, she would be a real asset.

gollyhugs,

Tami said:

And when I think of the term "successful artist", I differentiate it from financial success

I think that is really crucial, I am so glad you brought it up.

She also said:

"I am an artist already."

I love this!

I wonder if this is true of all artists?  I am told that my father colored on all the walls in his house when he was five, drawing pictures and shading them in and getting wolloped by his father until they got smart and got him a roll of butcher paper.  My grandmother told me that every singles scrap of paper the margine everything had his sketchs on them.

Paula said:

I've never felt like an artist and can't imagine I ever will.

I can understand this Paula.  My mother could sew, and she could craft out the most unusual patterns-and she was way ahead of her generation in clothing development....she didn't view what she did as art....And yet the most artistic designs and innovative patterns she developed- I wish I had them today!

But my father did.

and why can't clothing design be considered art?

Perhaps it is all dependent on what we each consider art?

My father considered her gifted with fabirc.  He thought of her designs as art.  But she thought she was utilitarian.

so do we all have differing criteria for what we consider art?

Here are some definitions of what some think art is:

the products of human creativity;
the creation of beautiful or significant things;

"art does not need to be innovative to be good";

"a superior skill that you can learn by study and practice and observation; "

"Art, in its broadest meaning, is the expression of creativity or imagination, or both."

If the creation of something beautiful makes us happy are we artists?

If the creation of something by someone else brings joy to us, does this make it art?

Any other ideas?

Dilu

Oh Tami, what a wonderful tribute....yes, of course your family and Grandmother are added to the prayer list......I am so glad you were so blessed by this wonderful woman.

DSC00446-2.JPGDSC00445-2.JPGI taught a golly class on E-bearz U and one of the ladies who took it was a gal named Karen.

We became friends, writing back and forth and I found her simply delightful.

And she was so kind about the class and sew enthusiastic.

Well you could have knocked me over with a feather-turns out she has designed gollies for the World of Miniature!!!!  Last thing she needed was me tealling her how to make a golly!

Well this is what she sent me for my birthday:  and I think he is simply adorable!

Thank you Karen-if I can ever get you to cruise by here..... bear_original

DSC00459.JPGOur very own Gladys, (Bearalive Bears)  sent me her very own, very first Golly ATC that she made for me....and while i would have loved it because it came from Gladys, i think its even more special because the little guy on the front, Jammal?, well I am lucky enough to live that little guy!  We traded last summer, and I think he's adorable.....even with all the icecream mess he has gotten himself into!

She did a grand job and i am ever so pleased she sent the card to me for my birthday.  How lucky is that?!

Thank you Gladys!  I love Jammal and think having his card is pretty  special!

easy busy work and sketching-doodling-playing with body parts -sometimes a really neat pattern developes...

I am sorry about your stress level....I think we can all relate to the kind of stress you are under...at one time or another.  However with you taking care of an elderly parent, its the kind of stress that doesn't go away, or at least we don't want it to go away.

My Mom in law moves in at the end of the month-I am nervous.  Not from the nursing point of view, because that I can do with my eyes closed.  But I am worried about the loss of privacy, the amount of work involved, and the stress on my relationship with my hubster.

So I have thought of you often over the three months while we get things ready....hang in there Hon,

prayers going out for your strength and for a decrease in the intensity of the stress....

Very interesting....ladies, Sarah there is a quilter here in the states by the name of Elinor Burns-she has a show on PBS....and one of the things she does is throw the scarps over her shoulder and onto the floor.....you maed me think of that....she has such delightful abandon and unbridled enthusiasm....

Her staff pick them up and package them and sell them as Elinor Burns scraps!  Bout $1.00 a bag....too funny, I think the title is "Scraps that Elinor Burns Threw"

Dilu

I was wondering what it feels like to be an artist. And then Jane posted today that she "Feels like an artist..."

So

What about the process of creating a kritter makes YOU FEEL like an artist?

Is it your favorite part?

Why or why not?

What does feeling like an artist feel like you guys?

Dilu

Jane, you are too cute....congratulations!  every step forward is to be cheered on!

awww Jenn, I am sorry,

I damaged my hearing from years and years of orchestra playing...Oboes get to be center front with the flutes---great place to hear everything, and a great place to damge hearing.

I hope it doesn't happen to you Honey,

keep us posted...there so much left in your life to hear, I hope you get to hear it all.....

Silly dilu just discovered there is silk embroidery thread available on e-bay-which I think would be grand, as silk is stronger, doesn't fray as easily as cotton and will have a slight shiny look to it.....I ordered some different greens for the silk ribbon embroidery and then kicked myself because this would also be a good application.....

http://stores.ebay.com/Threadart-Quilti … idZ2QQtZkm

and i am known for being a bit slap dash at the end so I frequently use one of Sassy Bears and Fabric's (Steph) mini resin noses.....

Cat, try hitting refresh-I don't have broadband but it sometimes  this *brings a page up-the computer will think it has a page that was slow loading when it has nothing.

Hope that helps, its the sum total of my computer understanding.

pretty pathetic.....but there it is....

dilu

Dilu

I can't tell you how many times it has happened, and especially here, at TT.....

and isn't it nice....and then we get to pass along the favor to someone else.....

Aww Krista,

you gave him the best few months of his life, and he had to know and appreciate....Cats do you know, they appreciate by turning you into their servants andbossing you around!  I love cats!

And so I appreciate what you and your hubby did for Edgar  Winter,  I think you are top cat in my book....

What an adorable face!  What a cute bear!

I am sorry about the cancellation, as it refers to the work you have done.  But look what you have!  An armful of pure love.  Congratulations-youre a winner anyway.

dilu

Dilu

While I don't sell bears I live, here, with a bunch a bear makers and they

all

say the same thing-E-bay is a fickle mistress, and so is the economy.....

don't get discouraged...just pull back and reformat!  If a doll doesn't sell I yank her, put her on the shelf and when I have a free moment I make her new clothing and change her name.  Yup!  Change everything.

I even changed sex once.....shhhhh don't tell anyone that!  And put her/him back out on the market and everything was fine....

I think sometimes we have to wait for the right person to come along and have his or hear heart string tugged and realize that this is exactly the right bear or doll for them.

I know this is hard....boy do I, but don't give up and especially don't get discouraged....take the OPPORTUNITY to figure out if you need to alter or transform the little dickens and try something new.

best wishes, gollyhugs and best luck!

No, all my cards were a little different...and my friend has mine....But hers are so lovely.  Now to get some more boxes done....the ones from the ladies here are simply breathtaking and i want them on display too....there is so much talent here, it takes my breath away!

dilu

These are just from Helen,  i suspect I shall have to start a new box for this years!

Dilu

Absolutely dart, darts and easing stitches--how else can we get the roundness we want?  So dart away, dart about, shoot darts, throw darts but when you sew them take tiny stitches and back stitch at the end so they don't unravel on you.....

hugs
dilu

Dilu

Awww, thats a soft cuddly one could truly fall in love with....congrats
