Teddy Talk: Creating, Collecting, Connecting

Thanks for the tips girls.I am now doing a traditional bear so I will have a go at putting the body right and hopefully I will get there in the end. :pray:

You must be reading my mind at the minute Tami as I am having trouble doing a four piece body.I usually stick to the two pieces and these seem alright for smaller bears but I done about a 23 inch bear and the two piece I done didn't seem to support the weight of the bear and as I had no more material I am left with a lovely head and no more material to put it right I am now doing a 20 inch and tried a four piece body but it has ended up with a football for a body-I think it is a bit too round.I am now trying to slim it down a bit.I don't know where I am going wrong with the two piece bodies but I am trying to make them wider across the front so that they are a boxy shape but they just seem to be too narrow and not broad enough to support the size of the bear.  :doh: Hopefully I will get there in the end

I am never satisfied with what I do so I can end up with loads of different pieces and I then have a problem with trying to remember what bear I done what with so I have a little book with their names in and what pattern I used and what differences there are to the original otherwise by the time I get to using it again I would have forgotten how I designed the last bear and how I achieved that look.Although I do have a handful of original patterns that I stick with.

They are really lovely Melissa-I love their little tops too.I have now done a couple of bears with the whites under their eyes and I wasn't sure if they look ok as it takes a while to get used to doing something different.

I sold two bears on e bay -one was last Friday and one was Monday and I am still awaiting payment on these two items but it seems a bit coincidental that none have paid and I haven't heard a thing either!One buyer was Canada and the other was Australia.I have never had to wait for this long for payments either so what is going on?

Great pictures Jane.I only managed to catch up with Yvonne and Melanie and ran out of time to catch up with everybody else as I had to catch the coach from Victoria at 3 oclock and as we walked and it took an hour and a quarter it didn't leave me a lot of time(I think I will bus next time as I didn't realise it was quite that far!!!)Apologies for not catching up with you all-I will have to try harder next time.As they say time flies by when you are enjoying yourself.

I'm a Katherine Hepburn.It is surprising  when you read your result how true to you they actually are.

I had a parcel go missing from a schulte supplier in the uk and he told me he had posted it  but four days later it hadn't turned up so he sent me another parcel and guess what they both arrived the next day so I sent the original back and I got a refund on the postage.The parcel had been dated on the day that it was supposed to have been sent so where it went instead in that time who knows!You tend to think does he believe me when I said that I didn't receive it in the first place and I think that he was thinking does she believe me when he said that he had sent it.
If your supplier is worth anything if it doesn't turn up shortly he should send you a replacement as you paid for goods and never got them.I wouldn't order from them again if they won't help you out as what would happen if yet another parcel went missing!
Parcels do go missing and turn up but then sometimes they never do.It could have got caught up in customs or sent to the wrong place and has to go back through the system.
I hope it turns up Jenny but if it does not I would think about shopping elsewhere if they don't send you a replacement and tell them this as well so hopefully they will do the right thing.

I am confident in the quality of my bears too Bonnie but like you  I do think will they appeal to collectors.Everyone has different tastes so whatever style you choose someone will like them.You don't always make a sale and this can be demoralising but as long as you are happy with what you make and the quality of them thats all that matters.Just make sure you start them off at a price which is the minimum you want for them and stick with that so buyers get to know what you want for your bears and accept what they have to pay for them.I would rather keep my bears than give them away and make no money on them because you put so much work into them and if you wanted to buy bears you would expect to pay a reasonable price yourself.When you work out pricing add up the cost of materials plus that bit extra so you are happy with your prices.I hope this helps.

You look nicely organized too.At the moment I am busy trying to keep my house tidy with the children home from school-just think if I had a workroom I could lock myself away 
I have been busy all afternoon enlarging patterns for a 23 inch bear-I was starting to think that maybe I should make smaller bears then everything would be scaled down including the mess.
