For artists and collectors sponsored by Intercal...your mohair supplier and Johnna's Mohair Store
Winney, Dilu,
I must remember my grab bag "prize" for you... Just writing it so maybe it will get ingrained in the brain. :D
Lookin' forward to June 24, :):)
Marie,
Your bear is darling. I agree with Sue Ann, you ARE an artist. Keep creating. Soon you will begin to recognize your own style emerging. (It's already there, but soon, YOU will see it.)
Hugs,
Jane, Dilu,
I love your Gollis!!! They are so cute. Keep up the good work, girls! :)
....And then there was the time that I bit into my peanut butter and homemade Blackberry jam sandwich, to find that one of the berries had a peculiar taste, and oddly rough texture....When I spit it out to investigate, it was the body of what we call a "Punkin' Back" spider!! Ptooey!!!
Ptooey!!!
Ptooey!!!
--Never found the legs. I always washed the berries really good after that...EWWW!!!
Dilu,
In my hurry, I thought I got all 13 pgs, but ended up with only the ist 10. Would you mind trying to send the last 3 again? I really enjoyed the Golli Collector news, as much as I got, anyhow.
Part of the music is a bit beyond what I can sight read. the part I could read, though, got my fingers all tangled up with all those notes right on top of each other. What key is that, that has 6 flats? Sheesh! You said it was easy? Well, I guess you meant for a concert pianist. From as much as I could make out, though, it is very catchy. Wish I could hear a recording, or better yet, I'd love to hear you play it. By the way, it was fun trying, and seeing the cover picture. I remember seeing that picture in some other place. I'm sure it is a classic for golli collectors. Thanks for sending it.
:):)
Hi Darleen,
I can't remember if I welcomed you to the board yet--dizzy days, these are! but if not, WELCOME'!! We have a lot of fun here, and even learn a thing or 2. Your bears are great. :)
Dilu, Thank you!!! Just got all 13 pgs. Busy now, more later
Danni,
What a nifty bear. That fur is too luscious!! I love how the dark and light colors play out in that texture.
And, Winney, I could definitely see a rat made of that
Winney,
Thanks for the golli info. I like your idea of writing a brief story about the golliwog for customers. Maybe it would be something I could frame and display at shows.
Dilu,
I have heard the fax ring a time or 2 this morning, but I was having a monthly ladies breakfast fellowship here, so didn't pay much attention. Once again, the fax rang and I received your cover page saying there were 13 pages following, but the second page was an error message from my system. It says I should ask you to send it again.
Double Hugs,
PS: I'm looking forward to our June meeting too.
It's a nice purple Ratinee - I loveeee Ratinee.
Any other Ratinee fans here?
Danni
I don't know. What is it? Today I saw a quality of mohair "the competition" calls ratty. I liked that, thought It might make a good, well, ...RAT!
Welcome Kirsten,
I see you're a fun loving person. You'll get along swimmingly here with all of us wonky ducks.
Your parting comment, I like the accent. Is that So.Cal Hip Hop, or Barbados Reggae, or??
A Welcoming Bear Hug
PS: good looking avatar and bear, and Shelli, you are way beyond observant to notice the likeness to the bear's paw pad. (Girl, you rock!!)
Dilu,
What do you do when people complain about your gollies? Do you cry like I did, or are you beyond that? When I was at the Lincoln City Convention last Oct, there was a lady speaker who had an amazing golli collection with her, and in her talk, she mentioned that if someone acts offended, we should tell them about the original Florence Upton golli stories, and that the golli was always a gentle hero in those stories. Somehow, I don't think the offended lady I encountered would have been assuaged by that bit of info.
Golli pins would be so cute! As for the Cakewald music, why don't you first try faxing it, as I tend to crave instant gratification whenever feasible. 707-442-9419 I think you should definitely post a picture for everyone, but "Golly Gee", I'd sure love a copy on my fax, in hopes that it would be framable.
I do believe I've heard of that club, but when I first heard, the gollis hadn't captivated my heart so rapturously as they have now. I'd love to have the address.
Thanks for the compliment on my gollis. Everyone has their own style. I think the more traditional style is wonderful. An asset about the non-politically correct ones is that often their homeliness is an endearing quality. They are silly looking and carefree and utterly lovable.
Golliwoggeldy wonky Hugs,
Dilu, how sweet of you to miss my face. We will meet face to face before long. I was just thinking, if we are "AAA", we must be one step beyond "AA" ( Alcoholics Anonymous, if by some remote chance someone didn't know.) Would that make us Arctophilic Addicts, Annonymous?
Lookie here, everyone!! Shelli made me this awesome new avatar. Now you don't have to look at my mug on my posts anymore. :P
{{{{{{{{{{Hugs, Hugs, Hugs,}}}}}}}}} to you, Shelli.
Sometimes I make girl or boy genders on purpose. Usually it works out, but sometimes I get surprised. Other times, I will let them disclose it to me. Sometimes I can't tell, so they get a non-gendered name, such as "Cookie".
Hi Danni,
"Chuffed" means angry doesn't it? Why are you angry about selling your bear? (I think I mentioned in an earlier post, he's a charmer!)
-Gosh I could almost smell my dear ol grannie, long dead these 40 years!
Ewwwwwww!!! Really??? :P:o:P:D
:lol::lol::lol:
Malcolm is amazing!!! Maybe one day you will create his portrait in soft sculpture.
Ok, I'll be brave and admit that I'm not totally ga-ga over animals living in the house. I'm sensitive to odors, and I'm not that fastidious about housekeeping, so that means the animals live outside, except for the goldfish, oh, and my grown son's Gopher snake, which I'm sure is a temporary resident just til his kids (at a different address) find out about it and insist that it must live at their house.
Outside we have a smelly but friendly black and white mutt named Oreo Cookie and a yellow Tabby cat named Sunshine, A goat named Jose and various and assorted chickens (yum.. fresh eggs!) I do very much enjoy zoos and nature books about animals.
Dilu, you wonky gollywoggeler,
I'm curious about the Golliwogs' Cakewalk. I would love to have a copy of the piano music to that. I'm no concert pianist, but I can get around on the ivories a bit. Do you have access to a fax, and would you mind sharing? Also, I'd love to see the picture on the cover. I am fascinated by Golliwogs.
Let me tell you a short (true) golliwog story that made me cry.
I set about making a golliwog that I determined would not be considered offensive. He was to have brown skin, a cute face, and a careful hairdo. It actually took me a few years from the start til the finish of the little fellow, as there was a divorce (unsolicited by me) in the middle. When Olliwog Golliwaddle (Ollie) was finally finished, I proudly displayed him at the Humboldt Artisans' Holiday Festival, a wonderful show I do yearly in my home town.
To my complete and utter dismay, a sweet elderly black lady who had come to the show directly from church, with several friends, all dressed in their Sunday finery addressed me in the softest, kindest voice imaginable as she related to me that Ollie, my pride and joy, was offensive to her. I was stunned. A few seconds later, I managed to pick my heart up off the floor. I simply had to press in. Through watery eyes and quivering lips, I offered my apology and asked what about little Ollie was offensive to her.
She was of the impression that Ollie represented the stereotypical "Al Jolson"-type buffoon. Certainly it had not been my intent, but I had made the mistake of using the color, white, for the lips. In my sincere desire not to offend, on the spot I colored the lips tan with a marker I had in my sewing kit. It looked horrible that way. I hoped I had not ruined it forever. Indeed, I did salvage Ollie by remaking his mouth from tan ultrasuede. The End...but not the end of my interest in gollis. Surely I will unwittingly offend again, but creating the lovable little nappy-heads will make it all worth while anyhow.
The offending Ollie
My newest creation, 'Holmes'
Please speak to me, what means, how you say, Harrap's?? Is it perchance a dictionary or some reference book?
Yes, Marion, I believe you and my Edie are two peas in a pod.
In general, I prefer to use natural colors. I like some bright spots now and then, however, so far I've not used any neon-bright colors, although I like them on other people's bears.
Shelli, If nothing else works, you could try publishing it to the web, and then putting the link in an email to me. This is the free, no registration required, website I've been using for getting pics onto this site. It's unbelievably simple to use. http://www.pix05.com/
I just love this topic:). It's like I just do what I've ever wanted to do ! :)
Marion, I loved your story. You remind me of my youngest daughter. She is 24, living with a fiancee and a baby, and yet continues her impish habits of doing things that ruffle me on purpose, just because she knows I love her to pieces, and she can get away with it.
She is such a darling brat!!:rolleyes::mad::lol::D
I've quoted what you said above, because it reminds me of a "revelation" that came to me once, "Hey, I can create anything I want to!!!"
Here is my "brat", Edith (Edie)
Danni,
Cute new avatar bear. I have never bought keys online. I have always come across them at flea markets and antique stores. Some antique stores, at least in California and Oregon, carry reproductions that look great and are very affordable. They're even dark and rusty.
Goodness, Louise, You've come a long way, Baby!!
I think it's good to share where we have come from, as well as where we are. There is always hope for (and always room for) PROGRESS.
Hugs,
