That's fantastic news, Judi, though not totally unexpected!!!! Congratulations!
I can't pretend I read all of your last post Shelley (toooo long!) but I did catch sight of the words 'creative impulse'. And if working to the tune of our own, individual creative impulses makes our bears art, then yes, it definitely is art.
I think many people misunderstand the term 'art' to be honest....myself included, when I first started out creating bears. I was uncomfortable with the term 'artist' applied to myself. But that has turned around, partly due to the experience I've gained, my growing confidence, and also the support of my friends and family who have always insisted that my craft is an artform.
Aleta, it's unfortunate and upsetting for you that your friends don't understand what is meant by the word 'art', but please don't get angry with them. Try to educate them instead! And if that doesn't work, just tell yourself that other people's opinions don't matter anyway - it's how you feel about your artwork that counts!
What a fantastic photo! I can't help you identify your friend's old bear, but just had to say how great they all look together!!!
As my daughter would say...bllueeerrrghh!!!!
Woohoo!!!! Congrats to you both, Shelli and Sue Ann! And I have all available fingers crossed for those who are still waiting to hear....
She's SO pretty!!! I'm sure she'll sell immediately - who could resist her?!
Woohoo! I can't wait to use the frosted fabric!!
Good luck with your house sale and impending move - I'll bet you're pretty excited!
Morning Anne-Bob, Sue Ann, PenPen, Mel, Dil, Daph and Marie....
Oops, I'm at the wrong end of the day aren't I?
Aaaah, the Waltons. Love 'em!
Penny, I'm in stitches here...not because your electricity went off (I'm sending you huggles for that ) but because you gave your hubby a bottle of G.I.T. for valentines....!!!!
Just wishing I'd thought of it....
She's lovely, Bronwen, and I especially love her smile
Very cute, Judi! He has a real twinkle in his eye!!!
Aww, what a little sweetheart! He's very cute!!!!
Thankyou everyone - I'm actually pretty happy with him which is a rare thing for me to feel about my own creations!!!! I'm definitely going to create more mohair pups in the future. He was a lot of fun.
Melissa, you should give it a go too. I'm sure you'd make a lovely doggy!

Hi, here's my latest creation - one of the very few to come out of the Bears-a-Bruin household this last month or two!
This little fox terrier is a commission and stands about 6.5" tall in his mohair feet. His patches were hand-dyed using Kool-Aid, and I have to say it was a very straightforward process thanks to all the hints and tips that have been kindly offered in this forum! This little doggy carries quite a weight, mostly in his rear-end for balance, and has wired ears for the cute expression....
I hope you like him - he's the first mohair dog I've made, pattern and all. I was trying to capture the look of a dog I found on the net, and I'll post that photo too if I can find it.
Thanks for looking!!!
Hi Aerriana,
This might help: http://www.colormatters.com/colortheory.html . It's kind of hard to know what would look best until you see the colours together...but darkish blue comes to my mind, because I would probably go for a contrast (but it depends how dark the fur is!). Maybe with some sparkle in there?!
Do you have a graphic programme you could play with, testing colours out side by side?
Let us know how you get on - I'm sure your finished bear will be beautiful and well loved!
You are so right Penny!!!! And yes, another outlet sometimes helps to unblock the things we focus on....
I've been quite blocked with my bears lately (is it the Winter blues, do you think?). But I had fantastic fun making my first ATC! It was just what I needed....
LOL Daphne, I didn't mean to make you nervous....sorry! But it's a good thing to have a little adrenaline flowing now and again, and I'm sure you will make excellent bunnies!!! Can't wait to see them!
Oooh, I'll have to get myself some of that (but hide it from my daughter...!)
Shelli - I cut the corners out of a decoupage sheet, and coloured them in using a glitter pen. Actually the whole card sparkles quite a lot but it doesn't really show in the photo.
It's like being back in school isn't it?! Running riot with glitter and glue, lol.
Inspired by the beautiful cards in this thread, I decided to have a go....and produced my first ATC card this afternoon!!! It was a huge amount of fun, and I even had a dig around in my 5-yr-old daughter's supplies for glittery stuff - can't wait to make some more!
I love my fuji F10 6.3mp. It has a white balance funtion and macro, which I think are important for photographing bears. I upgraded to this camera just a few months ago from an older fuji finepix (MX2700 2.3mp). Both cameras have excellent resolution and true colour.
I suggest you read a few reviews on the many camera sites around the web. That's how I decided that it was another fuji camera for me!!!
Have fun!!!
Wow Daphne, I just googled the film Mimzy and it looks like they're casting at the moment.....and the guy who wrote it also wrote Stuart Little, Deep Impact and Ghost among others!!! And the producer worked on Close Encounters! You're hitting the big time Daphne....well done to you....if we're all this excited, I can only imagine how excited you must be!!!
I believe all animals have a soul, Penny. Big hugs to you and your hubby
Fantastic Daphne, what a great opportunity! You must be very excited, which will help to get the adrenaline pumping so the deadline should be a snip!!!
Just before Christmas I was asked to make a mohair dog 'for a photo shoot'. I've been given no hints or links to anything remotely business-like, but your message has me wondering --- if someone does use your creation for publicity purposes, do they have to ask permission even though they are buying the item fair and square??? I mean, are they legally allowed to do whatever they like with it? Just wondering!
Congrats again Daphne, you deserve it!
Hahahahaha Penny! Have you ever considered going into comedy?!
Wow, Matthea, I am very impressed...love the clip (big Trek fan here!), you look fantastic in it and the effects are incredible. I'm not surprised you get those modelling jobs! Good for you!
