Shantell, I neve use any tools (exept pencil
) to draw my bear and they are always good (I think)
I like to sit in a cozy sofa and draw draw draw....
I have tons of patterns I drew but haven't sew yet! I have too much ideas...
But I do like to use my favotite head's pattern in different style.. I love to draw arms and legs. My pencil just draw by itself.
I'm drawing on a paper with squares ( like those ones at school) and since my bears are mostly not very big I count squares..
When I need to sew a big bear I draw a pattern of my regular size and then enlarge it. But can draw a really big patterns too, just when i am in the mood of waisting some paper...
:P

Hi Kim
whew - another opinon for you! If your bears are under 6" (and I think most of them are) chuck away that doll needle and use something smaller and finer. It was the best thing I ever did in terms of controlling the fabric. Somehow, the doll needle being that bit chunkier seems to wrench and twist the fabric a bit when working on a smaller scale. yes, you might bend a few needles, but needles are cheap and dispensible and your hands and bears aren't. I think that I use John James sharps but I'm not sure what size.
Also, don't use too thick thread. I used to use a number 5 perle thread on my bigger bears, swtiched to 8 and then 12 on my small bears. Now, I use a single strand of stranded embroidery floss. It is much softer than the number 12 and much easier to make a nicer softer nose shape. It does mean you have to do a few layers but it makes a much smoother finish than the perle 12 which is quite hard and unforgiving. If my bear is particularly fluffy, (as with the imported synthetics) I will usea bigger thread to stitch the septum and mouth.
hmm, hope that helps - probably just confused you more. You can buy nose templates, which one of my friend's swears by.
Matilda I'm totally with you!!! Couldn't say THAT in English but thought in Russian
Matilda are you sure it's YOURS?
GREAT JOB!!!! He is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cute!!!

HUGGS, JULIA
You mean you will first glue black ultrasued on me..., then stitch a new shape very neatly or make me a leather nose????
You don't like MY nose?????????????????
Another way to make your ears look bigger and rounder is to enlarge ears. If I want bigger ears I just use my regular pattern and enlarge only ears, say 10-.....%. I always get the result I want.
Huggs, Julia
Ellen, tou mean ears like this? I was doing that bear patterns for a gift so I can share MY ears with if you like
Julia
Nancy, HI
I don't know anything about websites just stopped to say HELLO!!!
:rose:
How are you doing?
HUGGS, Julia
Catherine, as you know, mohair backing isn't that thin and soft as the cloth, doll maker use to make body.
You can also make holes in the groove to stitch it onto mohair part of the leg. And use glue.
Plus, you can make Fimo leg on armatures or wire and it would be more strenght. The leg won't come off for sure.
Julia
I'm planning to do Fimo ears and the method I'll use for it will be the one with making holes. So I can stitch the ears on the head.
