Teddy Talk: Creating, Collecting, Connecting

It is so sad to lose a member of the Bear World and Teddy Talk Family.  Her posts we always so positive and encouraging .  My sincerest sympathy to Angela's family.   

Maria, again I thank you for introducing usto the den cam.  I've watch everyday  from  a few days before Hope was born.  It is such a wonderful experience seeing her grow and interact with Lily.  It has been very active in the den lately. Scares me to bits when Lily leaves the den or when Dr. Rogers goes to visit LOL !  I love watching Hope try to walk though , poor little thing.

Sorry to hear about your elbow Brenda,  I have no advice, just wanted to wish you a speedy recovery.  FYI ,I'm another Canadian that can't get on the site either- very odd.

Cyndee, I just added your ornament to the tree.  I got mine today so I could safely look at yours LOL.  Isn't Jack beautiful !  Mine is red   Linda is a sweet person, and I am honored to have met her in person.   I can't think of a more deserving person to receive this special surprise either !  It does warm the heart when nice people do nice things for other nice people

Please meet 8.5" Hilda the elephant who is available for immediate adoption.  She is the straggler from my webshow this morning LOL.    She is made from sparse matted mohair,  has tea dyed, aged cotton inner ears and paws, and vintage boot button eyes.

The reason being that Linda and I are also swapping ornaments and just mailed them this week.  I don't want to look at your ornament photo until mine arrives in case they are similar.  I want to be surprised LOL.     So when mine gets here I'll go get yours for the tree . I hope that is o.k.

Bobbie I think you are referring to a gasket punch or the craft punch like these ?    I  just hit them with a hammer or rubber mallet to cut out the circles of ultrasuede, etc.   I think gasket punches can be found at a hardware/automotive store, and I got my craft punches at ...well...the craft store LOL .

I buy E-6000 glue at Michael's craft store.  Here is there page explaining the glue and how to use it.  It is a bit strong smelling so use in a well ventilated area !  The smell does go away after awhile on the items you adhere to .  I used it to glue wood moulding to my laminate floor and it is rock solid LOL

The Apoxy is a little sticky when you first start to kneed the two parts.  It is like putty.   After kneeding well, I let it set for about 1 hour then it is easier to work with.  You have about 2-3 hours working time before if starts to harden , and is fully cured in 24 hours.  After I shape my noses, I add the wire.  I let them sit  for about 30 minutes and then smooth out any areas that need fixing.

Hi Pat,

I use Apoxy Sculpt to make my clay noses. It is a 2 part compound that you kneed together. It is incredibly solid and almost impossible to break. You can even sand and drill it.  I insert a strong wire in a loop shape,  and the clay air dries.  I've never had a wire come out.  It also will adhere to anything I am told, and your nose could even be molded right onto the mohair and would adhere permanently by itself.

Because  you make much bigger noses maybe you could insert a  stronger wire loop on the left and right,  or top and bottom instead of 1 wire centered ???  Then you have 2 loops to sew on for strength and support.  I also use a strong glue for added support like E600 or superglue.  But, with the apoxy sculpt I don't worry about the nose breaking off.   I always make my wire  loops with little tails that I bend sideways so they hold in the clay better too.

I have used  Fimo/Sculpy  but had lots of wires break  off the noses.

Ali, is there anyway at all that you can just scan your pattern then tell the printer to print it a certain % .   I can't do it with the buttons on my printer, but can adjust it in my printer software.  I would think most new printers can do this.  It may just be a case of figuring out how , and that's not always easy  

What model printer do you have ?   Maybe I can find something on google to help you out.

Hi Sue, I always do on my fur bears.  It makes a much nicer finish with less bulk .   Just remember to  line the pelt with cotton, leave bigger openings for turning, and longer stitch length so as not to perforate the pelts.

I'm another fan who checks in several times a day.  I've watched that fantastic video over and over admiring that dear little cub today.  I've been lucky most days when I watch the cub is making lots of noise , especially first thing in the morning here.   It makes the most precious sounds.   My family thinks I'm insane but I don't care LOL.
