Sorry for telling you all this but I am on my own today and had to tell somebody.None of my terrestial friends are answering the phone so here you go friends in cyberspace!!!
For a few days I have been very worried about a lump on the inside of my thigh quite far up and impossible to see.My brother died of skin cancer and I have to get everything like this checked out.I have had a few biopsies and have been very lucky to be clear.Anway I have been plucking up the courage to ask someone to look but today I decided to do a weird yoga move and see if I could see it with a torch and mirror.I panicked when I saw what I thought was a mole that had turned grey and it was also very painful.I just cold not seem to get a good look then I managed with a magnifying glass.Thats when I thought "could it be  a tick??"I got my tick removing tool out and could not decide what to do.If it was a mole twisting it off would not be a good move.I decided to go for it and out the wee sucker came.If it was not so blooming sore I would be jumping for joy!!!In all these years of pulling them off the dogs I have never had one latch on to me.I never expected to be so happy to see one !!!!

Parasites are just... blick.  I'm glad yours will no longer be freeloading on your inner thigh.  And I hope you don't have tick-borne disease issues where you are, like Lyme Disease.  If you do, please make sure to go to a doctor, where they can check for symptoms you might not be able to view, given the location (bullseye type rash.)

Take care!

OOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWW, Yikes I hate ticks, my dogs have only had one and that freaked me out.
Yet in another way Diane it must be a relief for you to know that it was nothing more. Keep an eye on the area and if you're not sure pop along to you GP.

Hi Diane,
Wow, never thought I would say "a tick - that's good news"!  It really is.  I've only every seen one and that was on my neighbour's sheep dog.  We have them, but much more out in the woodsie areas.   I read somewhere that if you smother them with vaseline they will die naturally, as they can't breathe the vaseline.  Don't know if its true or not.  Enjoy the rest of the day - I'm sure you are delighted.

                                                       hugs,

                                                       Brenda

OOOO Diane...So glad to hear you have plucked off the little buggar.  I totally agree with Shelli to be aware of Lymes associated with ticks.  Eeewww.

My son has just deveoped a very dark brown spot on his forearm.  At first I thoght it may be just a little blood blister as he is such an active little boy often full of scrapes from playing.  Well, this little spot is getting larger and it's makng me nervous.

What did you do with the tick?  Squash it? bear_shocked

Thank the Heavens it was only a tick!!!!  Hard to believe its more joyful to have it be only a tick and nothing else...but I do agree with Shelli and please have your daughter keep a close eye on it for you, as ticks do carry some truly awful diseases.

As per the yank it out/or put something on it to get it off methods...I'm in the 'yank it out' camp.  Yes, you can accidentally leave the head...in which case you get the lovely abcess to remove said head, and possible other infection.  BUT if you smother it with vaseline, or the alcohol (or for the truly brave, trying to touch it with a match to get it to back out) sometimes the icky things will regurgitate before backing out.  Okay, that's just a bit too much for me!   bear_ermm   So mine all get yanked out straight away.

As for cancer or any other form of tumor... a little known fact is that eating flax seed, freshly ground and sprinkled on cereal, salads, over just about anything for that matter will kill a tumor.  Doesn't matter if its cancerous, benign, fatty etc etc etc...basically the good stuff in the freshly ground (whole flax goes through your system without being utilized) prevents blood flow to the tumor.  So without the blood, the tumor 'starves' and dies off!

Last year (and the real kick up the butt for me to get into horses again) I had a lump in my left breast.  I had a serious 'wake up' call over it for a lot of things in my life, but at the end of the day, hubby supported me whichever way I chose to go on it......natural route or the typical medical route.  Now most of my life has been spent watching my close family and relatives get hacked away by either breast cancer or diabetes ...or both... and I chose to go the natural route.  Long n short, I got organic flax seed, and ground it in a little coffee grinder (cheapy cost me all of $5.00) and I sprinkled some flax seed over my omelette, and salad daily.  Nothing fancy, nothing awful...ground flax tastes like almonds ~ yum!  And within a month the lump had completely vanished.

What was the lump exactly?  I don't know because I'm afraid of doctors and avoid them like the Plague.  All I know is that I added fresh flax seed into my diet and the lump went away.  I know that you can't say the flax seed 'cured' it because that term is sat upon by the medical community...and I have absolutely no evidence to back up what happened...only my own experience, and other supporting evidence of others who have done the same.   bear_happy  I'll take my flax seed  over chemo anyday!   bear_happy

And last but certainly NOT least....Judi, how long has your son had this suspected brown spot?  I'm wondering if it might be the spider bite from a brown recluse.  PLEASE I do not mean to panic you, but my hubby and I for the first times in our lives have had repeated bites from these boogers.  Each and every time we've cleared it up with several applications of DMSO.  You can get this from the feedstore, and it is labelled for animal use only, but DMSO has actually been around since the mid 70s and has been used heavily by doctors for all sorts.

It is what is considered a 'carrier' so anything on the surface of the skin will be carried into the body.  Be SURE you do not have anything like sunblock or bug spray on his arm before applying (if you chose to do this that is).  Wash clean, and pat dry first.  Then apply the tiniest bit of DMSO only on the bite (or spot) itself.

Personally, two years back I ended up with a spider bite over my stomach.  I had it for two days before I showed it to hubby (before then I was trying to suss out how I'd managed to bruise my stomach that badly without noticing!)  When I showed it to hubby for a second opinion (well my boob WAS in the way!)  he told me I all ready had the red lines radiating from it.  That's totally not a good sign..  bear_shocked

Normally I would say hop in the truck and get to an ER pronto!!!  But I knew from recent experience, our local hospitals did not carry the antivenom for the brown recluse....so I chose to apply the DMSO instead.  It took at least two days and at least four to five applications a day for it to come back under control, but it did.  And it healed fully.

For the record, DMSO is labelled and recommended for horses and cattle and other livestock if your animal should be bitten by a rattlesnake.  We started using it originally for helping with achey joints, but its proven to be a lifesaver time and time again.

And Judi, if you want to take your little one into his pediatrician, please, by all means do so!!!!   bear_thumb   Its so fretting as a mum to know when to self treat, and when to 'keep an eye on it'.  I didn't mean to tell you not to take him in for proper medical treatment.  Its only that in my area, I all ready knew for me that the local hospitals did not have the needed treatment, and I'd all ready let the bite reach a dangerous size because I didn't know what it was.

And for everyone else that I've scared the pants off......I'm sorry!

Thank you all for caring so much.I have a specialised tool that I bought at the vets so the head and all the attractive legs came out.I just put him out the window as I don't like to kill anything even these wee horrors. The area is still throbing but then he was big and made a big hole.
Judi ,I would get to the doctors with the wee ones brown area.I have a bit of a fear of spots etc now.Having said that I have not seen a doctor for six years and neither has Hayley luckily!!!
I used to have to strip naked and have my photo taken regularly to check all my moles.Thankfully I don't have that done anymore ha ha.
Brenda the vaseline does work but I didn't fancy another night with my new pal. They breathe through their skin so anything that prevents osmosis works.I used to use meths.
Once again thanks for caring.

BLEECH!!! The thought of something feeding of me makes my skin crawl... I don't care for bugs, especially ones with lots and lots of legs (arachnids) ... Glad it was not the alternative but do see a dr if you start feeling "odd"...

Aaaaaccccckkkkk . . . Diane - what a scare!!  I understand your concern as I had surgery for malignant melanoma years ago.  Is that what your brother died of?  I also have to get checked periodically.  I've also been bitten by a brown recluse and that's not fun, either.  Haven't heard of DSMO, Debbie, but sounds interesting as does the flax.  I'm so glad it wasn't the worst case scenario, Diane!

Judi, it wouldn't hurt to have that spot on your son looked at.

Yes Sue Ann it was  malignanat melanoma but it was the kind that is always fatal. The doctors told us that really from day one he was doomed. It manifested with a mole on his foot which grew after a week in Cornwall in the sun.He ended up with cancer in every main organ and his spine severed. He wore a corset thing to keep him all together and because he was such a big strong person he took a very long time to die.He was a veggie and took lots of excercise and didn't smoke. All he ever said when you asked after him was "my stomach is a bit sore".I phoned him every night in the hospital in London and travelled down with Hayley whenever I could. It was a bad time as I was going through a divorce and losing my home all at the same time and with a tiny baby to care for.He died a month after his 36th birthday. We were very close and I miss him every day but I learned a lot about life and appreciating what you have.
Hayley and I have to keep out of the sun and away from smokers as turning brown or passive smoking are the two most common activators of this type of cancer. It is a small price to pay.On a cheerier note I am surrounded by his paintings and feel he is still here in a way.
Thanks for caring and I am so glad you survived yours,I bet you learned a lot too and don't moan over a cold!!!.I don't fancy your spider bite one bit.We don't have any nasty spiders here.I am quite fond of them and never kill them.

Oh wow Diane - what a worry for you!!   I remember years ago, when we went caravanning ( I was a kid - LONG time ago!!   bear_laugh ) we took our 2 dogs and budgie with us, well it was their holiday too!!  The site had a pond, and the dogs got ticks, and they passed them onto our sweet budgie - bless him, had one just outside his eye.  It was horrible, they were all fine though, hope you're better soon!!

My tick bite has just about cleared up thanks everyone.I visited the pet shop yesterday and the owner showed me a saucer sized hole in his leg where he had a tick and ended up in hospital.Seemingly here it is the ticks that have fed on deer and not sheep that are the worry.I meet deer every day so I must be more careful and tuck everything in,vest to pants(I dress like a two year old!!!) and trousers into socks.I have only had one in ten years of tramping about with the dogs so I can't complain.Thank you all for caring.

Oh Nettie, sorry for these bad things you gone through. I have a dog who had ticks sometimes. It's very disgusting for me and i ask my hubby to take them of. Life can be so unjust sometimes. There are many peple who smokes for years, take drugs, drinks much and take too much sun and they dont die from that when anothers like your brother past away so young. I didn't use to expose myself on the sun, but since 2 years, i began to have some freckles( spot?) on my face and they came bigger and bigger. This is part of why i don't let you see my face here bear_sad I'm 46 years old and i tough that it was because of that, but the dermatologist said it wasn't.I told to her that i don't expose myself to the sun, but she said that even if i don't, the sun speed up the original little spot that i had since my chilhood.Knowing about your brother Nettie will help me think that this is nothing in comparison. bear_wub  to all, Irene

Thanks Irene and keep looking after your skin.
My brother was very young but he did live a full life.He acheived what he wanted to be which was a proffessional artist and he had many many friends. His funeral was turned into an art exhibition and the BBC planted lots of trees in his name.He is well remembered.

BUT if you smother it with vaseline, or the alcohol (or for the truly brave, trying to touch it with a match to get it to back out) sometimes the icky things will regurgitate before backing out.

We've tried all 3 methods - and more - over the years, as we camped out continually with our 3 kids & dogs.

As an experiment I stuck a pin through one and poked it into the inverted cap from the rubbing alcohol bottle, after filling it to the brim.

48 hours later that trooper was still swimming away in there. Now I just avoid any area they're likely to drop off or crawl up onto you.......
