I am still worried because they aren't sure that is what it is... every time I go back, they send me for more tests... My family dr thinks it is a bacteria (This has all been going on since April).....

Take care of yourself took, Catherine - hope they get you sorted out as well

I miss ALL dairy!  Its my favorite food group! but hey, if it is going to make me sick, I'll steer clear!

Hi Kim, have they done tests for you for lactose or fructose intolerance?  It was through this test that they were able to FINALLY (this has been building up for a couple of years if not longer for me due to Drs not treating me) start figuring out what is going on.  I was highly fructose intolerant due to the bacteria in my blood feeding off it!

anyway, we'll get there  bear_original

I don't know... I wasn't lactose intollerant in about March... The family dr thinks that I might have these food "allergies" because of the bacteria that he thinks I have.

And I would normally be able to deal with some of this better but I have ALSO been having asthema problems on top of it too ARRGH! I am falling apart!

I am sure eventually they will figure it out, I am just afraid that if it is a baceteria, they are dilly dallying around too much and I could have serious problems.... I hate not being taken seriously by doctors  bear_angry  bear_angry

It took me a long time to find a doctor who listened and looked at me as a whole and not just as a black and white, text book case (like they do for most people).  We found a doctor who specializes in "preventative medicine".  He's associated with one of the best hospitals in my area as well.  Some might say it's more holistic, (relating to or concerned with wholes or with complete systems rather than with the analysis of, treatment of, or dissection into parts <holistic medicine attempts to treat both the mind and the body)..but it's more than mind over matter...he treats you as a whole system where many specialist just treat what they specialize in and send you on your way to the next guy, where the specialist never really all work together to make you well.

When I got so ill that I felt like my body was breaking down around me I decided it was time to seek help from "outside the box".  The last thing I needed was to feel desperate, cause then they just label you a depressed female and link all of your health issues back to being depressed rather than dealing with you anymore.  It's easier for them to say "ah, she's depressed..that's her problem..case solved..I'm done"

I'm so glad I found this doctor and my primary because together they helped me more than any specialist had (we're talking orthopedics, neurologists, gastro, rheumatologists, pulmonary/sleep specialists...I saw 'em all)

Holistic today isn't rocks and crystals and meditating to become well like in the movies (not that any of those things are bad...).  It's much more system driven, whole body, foods, outside influence, environmental factors, etc.  Many of these doctors have outstanding credentials and are associated with top hospitals.  Might be an option for you at some point.

Chrissi, I have had exactly the same experience here, I have been getting worse and worse seeing all sorts of docs and specialists and in the end them pretty much saying I was depressed and giving me the feeling it was all in my head although knowing it wasn't.    I too found a very good dr that looks at the whole body rather than the sympton, specialises in alternative medicine as well - because of him we have finally found out what is going on with my body and that I'm not crazy!!  Now, the tricky part is sorting it all out!  I hope you can find a Dr that will listen to you Kim.

I think it is mostly the staff at the family doctors office that makes it sooo incredibly bad... I am a little weary of that dr though because he thought at first it was an appendix problem and I found out later that my appendix is on the OTHER side than where he was feeling around... YIKES!  The only reason I am with that dr is becuase my doctor who I saw all of my life and who actually delivered me as well retired bear_sad  he was more holistic and wasn't affraid to tell you how to cure things without antibiotics.... He was kind of like a Dr.'s book of Home Remedies in a body  LOL  there arent many of those doctors around (wish I could find one!) ... and the stomach specialist is, well, how should I put it a jerk...

Eventually it will all get sorted out and I feel much better to know that there are others out there who are in the same boat bear_original

Oh Darling darling ladies;

Medicine is truly educated guessing.  The poor docs guess the most common things first.....then they start RULING OUT....You've probably all heard, "well we rulled out such and such...."

And that is exactly what they are doing....broadening their scope....going into the more obscure things people get....and making guesses and rulling out.  The guesses are based on what we tell them....they wouldn't rule out a broken leg if we were complaining of digestive problems.   Thats where that high priced EdUkAtiON comes in.....

Wouldn't it be wonderful if they could say,

its just thyroid

and always be right....because taking a synthetic thyroid replacement . even at age 24, is the least painful and least bothersome of all the answers we could possibly be given.

I am so sorry for all of you....I truly am...it is soo sad bear_cry

In 2000 I had bowel and tum sugery and nothing has been the same since.  IBS is a wonderful catchall name that they lump so many of us in because they simply don't know, and can't tell us what will fix it.  And many times NOTHING will fix it.

And that's when you start getting creative and figuring out what works and what doesn't FOR YOU,

part of being individuals is that we truly are individual.

No one in the world has exactly the same reaction to a particular illness or condition that you do

Since my doctor refused to come home with me to figure things out, (Yes I did ask jokingly) I have done alot of my own figuring out....of what works and what doesn't.

When to take medications, when not to, how to eat, what to eat, when to eat, what to drink, schnapps is ok but really good quality wine ouch!....its up to you to figure out what DOES work and then don't let anyone sway you or tell you you're wrong!  IT IS YOUR POOR OLD BODY GOING THROUGH ALL THE PAIN AND SUFFERING!!!

If the doctor isn't willing to live wIht you and see what you go through and you come back and say, Eureka I have found something that helps, then that doctor doesn't have the right to say "NO that's silly!"  And believe me, dilu has told a doc or two that very thing!

If you find something that works for you, stick with it, until you have to change.

for instance, I have to take Mirapex, a dopamine agonist.  The upside of Mirapex is that it might reduce the Fibromyalgia symptoms.  The downside, it turns my 3 ounce shotglass of a tum in to a quivering, vomitus mass.  YIKES!!!!

The doc wanted to stop it.  BUT then what would happen?....Fibro continues forever?  While others are getting better?

I wasn't willing to stop.  I decided that since bismuth coats, and that is the active ingredient of Pepto Bismol, that if I took a shot, (YUMMM) of Pepto every time I take my pill it will coat the tummy and small bowel and help that little pill of hope move on through.  Thank heavens thats only once a day!

So far so good.......

What I am trying to say, is get pro-active....try things, when you have a bad day, analyze what waas different the day, the week, the night before.  And change it.  Don't give in!  Don't let something that YOU might be able to control ruin your life or steal your joy away!

There is always HOPE, and as we are alive, there is HOPE, and if the doctor's can't do it for us well, we're smart, we can read, we understand the internet, we can research, we can find ways to make life a little better for ourselves.

And I guarantee you, every time you have an epiphany, an Eureka moment, an eye opening DUH, you will be more powerful, more strong, more in control than you were before!

I'm personally betting on you guys, and not the dear doctors, who really do the best they can.  I am betting that you can devlope life styles that will be more comfortable for you.

gollylove

Thanks Dilly... I have figured out more on my own about what makes me feel good/bad than the doctors have... I have done research and found trigger foods and such and am doing pretty well (A gal that I work with said on Thursday, "I can't believe how skinny you are... " well duh, I've been sick for months and have cut a bunch of stuff out of my diet.... the main thing being RED MEAT... I have sinced added dairy back into my diet *YEAH!!** but have to take it easy and NEVER on an empty tum... I just have to watch what I eat, when I eat it, what portions I eat, etc.... and try not to get so darn STRESSED out LOL... Things have been a lot better and am starting to feel a bit like myself again - now if I could just calm my asthema down I would be all set!  My mom thinks that maybe my allergies are triggering it... (I've also been told by coworkers that this season is one of the worst seasons in years for allergies, I hope they are right!)...

Dilu, hope you feel better, girly, I didnt realize you were sick like that...

Hey Kim, I'm pleased to hear you are able to have some yummy dairy now bear_original  I can so relate to you when people say you are skinny now, all my clothes are too big for me (and I was already small!) and I wanted to buy some clothes today but the smallest was still way too big, think I'll start shopping in the kids section    I'm down to 94Ibs now and am 5ft4, so way too light but I keep eating and eating and nothing comes on...  this diet I'm having to follow has nothing in it that will help weight to come on... oh well!  Dilu, you've been through rough times.  I too try and figure things out myself, I keep a food diary now every day and how I feel, so I can see how certain foods react for me.  A very boring diary to read    bear_happy

Take care,

Awww Kimmy, doncha worry about old dily here, she is a born fighter, kibbutzer, and nosey old thing.....I'll go happily when God points his finger, but until then I am not content to just accept....I will fight and seach and work trying to find the answers.  Maybe the stubborness keeps me here.

I have to laugh at the weight thing....It seems the thinner I am the older I look....I would like to add about 30 pounds and plump out the wrinkles...

Wow Catherine... I am 108 lbs and 5'3"(last I checked).. and that is 10 lbs less than I was... I also was small before (1/2 or 3/4 bottoms and S/XS top) and now some of the stuff that didn't fit me when I was 118 is now HUGE on me... I went to work this week one day and I wore an outfit I had worn before (black pants and a pink long sleeve top)... well, now my pants don't sit as high and my back and tum kept appearing LOL... I didnt realize it until I got to work that it was like that...

I always take my vitamins :)

being thin runs in my family though (my mom, sis and I are all in 1/2 - 3/4 and my grandfather had to drink weigt gainer shakes)....

Sorry to hear about all of this...
As I have gotten older (all 30 years) I find that I can't drink milk, or real ice cream... well I can but my tummy gets upset.
I only have ice cream once in awhile and when I am craving milky, I buy Silk. I get the vanilla flavored one. I really like it.

hiya, yep I am taking multi mineral/vitamin supplement especially prescribed from the Dr three times a day, enzyme tablets with each meal to try and make sure the food is absorbed into my body, plus alllll sorts of other special natural products prescribed by the Doc to try and get my system better!  I seem to spend all day long taking stuff!  but hey as long as it helps I don't mind.  Off to go for a nice walk with my fiancee, beautiful weather here today  bear_thumb

OOOO... Jared... I LOVE that Vanilla Silk!!!!!  Mmmmm.

Catherine and Dilu and Kim.... you know, I'm a tiny person too, and have been all my life.  It's just who I am.  There are times I've been more muscular, and thus heavier, and times when I've been rounder and mushier (pregnant and YEARS of nursing my babies!  bear_wacko )  Dilu is SOOOOO right about getting to know what works for your own body first and foremost.  You'll eventually work it all out and you'll feel healthy and strong and good about yourself!   bear_thumb  Whether that weight is a bit on the heavy side or a bit on the light side, everyone has a point where their body functions BEST!

Glad to hear you can do milk again Kim!  I remember when our Judi did her report on dairy cows and farm life... you said you were a milk gal!  I am too... mostly in cheese though!  I couldn't live without cheese!
