bear_laugh:D What a beauty!!

The same thing happened to me last January, when I was searching eBay for a shearling coat for my hubs.
I was blown away by these beautiful creatures, and started visiting websites. I was hooked in matter of seconds!

Oh Daphne, I'm so sorry too. I perfectly understand that
you didn't mean anything to put Manufactured bear down.....
I hope I didn't make you feel bad or sad...
This was really great Topic to
to talk about Artist Bear. bear_innocent

Manufacture bear is affordable(some are not so...)
and it's best way to start collecting Teddy Bears. bear_smile Only thing...when you get to know about Artist bears really well it's hard to take eyes off from them.

I too started out collecting manufactured bears.... for YEARS before I ever knew about artist bears.
Then I continued to collect manufactured bears mostly because of price. It was a while before I learned what went into making an artist bear. Then I wanted artist quality bears so badly but couldn't afford them so started making them myself. (I could have a very large colllection of artist bears now but instead have all that money wrapped up in mohair and supplies! bear_ermm  )

Now when I see a manufactured bear I look at it with a very critical eye. Sure, some just have 'the look' and it doesn't matter if they have joints, fur stuck in seams or whatever but others I pick over unmercifully. I need to stop that!

Marie - you most certainly can use my idea... it's not really mine as I'm sure others have done similar things.

Hey Daphne!

I totally forgot that Bears Direct has an article about artist bears!

http://www.bears-direct.com/teddy-bear- … ears.shtml

And here's a neat one - the Hong Kong Teddy Bear Association Home page... http://www.hktba.com.hk/intro_english.htm

And here are a Yahoo search of "what is an artist bear"... so you (and I!) can get some ideas....

Thanks Laura!

I found the article in Bears Direct by Anne Cranshaw especially noteworthy.  Plus I have always loved her work -- she was one of my early inspirations.   bear_wub
