Hi all,

Please read the following and be sure to pass along the information to other groups you belong to. Please remember to use BCC when you forward and please remember to remove all email addresses that may have been forwarded by others! Try to keep your email addresses and those of your family and friends as private as possible by using BCC when ever you can.

If you belong to ANY Yahoo Groups - be aware that Yahoo is now using
"Web Beacons" to track every Yahoo Group user. It's similar to
cookies, but allows Yahoo to record every web site and every group you
visit, even when you're not connected to Yahoo. Look at their updated
privacy statement at _http://info.yahoo.com/privacy/us/yahoo/details.html_
(http://info.yahoo.com/privacy/us/yahoo/details.html)

About half-way down the page, in the section on *cookies*, you will
see a link that says *WEB BEACONS*.

Click on the phrase "Web Beacons." On the page that opens, on the left
find a box entitled "Opt-Out."

In that section find "opt-out of interest-matched advertising" link
that will let you "opt-out" of their snooping. Click it and then click
the opt-out button on the next page.

Note that Yahoo's invasion of your privacy - and your ability to
opt-out of it - is not user-specific. It is MACHINE specific. That
means you will have to opt-out on every computer (and browser) you use.

Please forward this to your other groups. You might complain, too, but
I'm not sure if anyone is listening. I remember when they signed all
users up to get spam and we had to opt out of that a few years ago.

Hi Gail,
Thanks for your information - I've opted out on our three computers and when I set up the new Imac I got for Xmas, later today, I'll opt out on that one as well.  I think Facebook tried to do something like this a few months ago, but the outcry was so bad, the changed their mind.  I'm also telling all my friends and relatives - I don't like the idea at all.

                                       hugs,

I may be in the minority and time will tell if I'll keep being opted in but I actually don't mind it. One day last week on My Yahoo! page I saw an ad for 25% off any item to use towards a website I just visited (okay "shopped") the day before. I thought what the heck! Coincidence? Now I know it isn't. In these tough economic times I want my money to go far so yeah for the coupon. At least you are seeing ads for things that you may be interested in.
