Hi.

Even if I love Intercal, I can't afford to buy there anymore, our custom snap all parcels and put
25% on the price + ship + a high fee   bear_angry

Where is a good place to buy in Europe???

I have seen some, but not as good as Intercal - they have a very good
website with nice photos and good prices, I have not found one as good in Europe yet    bear_sad

Strange when you know most mohair is made in Europe  bear_cool

Hi Lisa,

there are a few suppliers I use here in the UK.  They are not as large as Intercal or Edinburgh Imports but I have received a very good service from them:

www.bearbasics.co.uk/index.php

www.christiebears.co.uk/

www.emmarybears.com/

Also I know its not in Europe but the prices are good, have you tried www.loubear.com/

Hope this has given you some new ideas!

I have bought from all the above that Ali mentioned and they are great.

I also recommend ProBear in Germany -

The stuff came really quick and they have a great range  bear_wub

Hi.

Thanks for the links, I'll go checking them out   bear_original

If you but from Intercal in UK, do the get those fees on top of the price too ?

25% on top of price+ship is a lot and then we get a custom fee too, I just don't like custom   bear_rolleyes

if you buy from outside europe, then there is a certain amount that you are allowed customs free (it's not very much, i think about £18 - which certainly wouldn't buy much mohair).

Over that you get charged VAT at 17.5% (although VAT may be going up in January to around 20%) and a Handling fee from customs and the post office. if you spend over £135, there is also another charge on top. You never know quite what you are going to have to pay. I think last time I had one, the handling fee was about £8.

That's in the uk. Buying from Europe however is fine with no charge - hence probear. I love Intercals choice and quality. But I have only bought second hand from other people's clearouts for that reason.

Hi Lisa
I'd like to add my recommendation to Jaina's........Probaer has a huge range of fabrics, plus all the other bits and pieces.  They are incredibly quick to fill orders - I normally receive mine the next day!  I found it worthwhile to invest 20 euros for their sample cards - much better than trying to choose fabric from photos. They also take paypal, and have a tri-lingual website - Dutch, German and English.
Incidentally it's PROBAER, not BEAR (!)
Of course, you could always plan a trip to Germany and visit one of the big teddy shows........all the suppliers will be there!
big hugs
Maria

Hi.

Yes, Probaer is fine too, I have bought there one time I think - must visit them again  :D
Through the years I have bought allmost all via Intercal, before the DK custom was so effective   bear_tongue

A trip to a big fair, that is a very nice ide too    bear_rolleyes    and then I'll bring a big suitcase for mohair   bear_thumb

You could as the suppliers to split the order into a number of parcels, you may pay more in postage, but if each parcel is under the customs limit you will avoid the tax.

cheers, G

Hi Lisa,

Here are some other sites you might want to visit:

http://www.baerenstuebchen.de/   this is the (German) website of Baerenstuebchen Bluemmel; they have a great range of Schulte Steiff mohair.

Edinburgh Imports is not a European but a US supplier; they have, however, a wide range of mainly Schulte fabrics. Since the US dollar vs European currencies is rather favorable it's worthwile having a look on this website. For special prices especially have a look in the Itsy Bitsy Room and also read the 'fine print' which a.o. mentions a 40% discount to the listed retail prices (only apply to FULL YARD or more cuts). You can find them on  http://www.edinburghimports.com/
Special offers can be viewn on their Monthly Web Special.

And another US supplier I can recommend is Teddy Bear Mohairhttp://www.teddybearmohair.com/   This site offers a limited but very nice mohair collection for very competitive prices!

And then a Dutch supplier, Berelijn, who sell a wide range of Helmbold mohair. For their complete collection you can order a sample card; costs for this card I (as far as I can recollect) deducted from your first order

Oh, and by the way, Maria, ProBär (or rather: ProBär GmbH / ProBeer vof / ProBear Int. BV) was originally based in Holland and was called ProBeer. They now have their shop in Gronau, just on the other side of the Dutch/German border. And the website is : http://www.probear.com/  So far for some history  bear_original

Hope this will help you a bit.

Hugs from Holland,
Marianne

Do you pay custom fees in Holland too ?

Hi Lisa,

For shipments from the US we do pay custom fees too in Holland; the fee is based on the amount which is mentioned on the customs invoice.

As you will probably know, when residing in an EU-member state ( like Denmark or Holland; ) you do NOT have to pay customs fees for shipments from other EU-countries ( complete list of EU member states can be found on  http://europa.eu/abc/european_countries … dex_en.htm ).

I realize I forgot to mention the link to Berelijn in my earlier message. Here it is:   http://www.berelijn.com/

Hugs,
Marianne
