Hello from sleepy Suffolk Uk!  I suddenly find that I feel a need to make a teddy bear for the first time!
I have a super book Making Lovable Teddy Bears and Their Clothes by Marion Thielmann & Beate Franz.  It has teddys from 24 inch to 12 1/2 inch and all sizes in between.  It does not tell me what size of joints (head arms and legs) to get for the teddys.  Could anybody out there help me with this?

Are you planning to use a pattern, at least for your first bear? Any pattern (or kit, which can be a good choice for a beginner) should specify the joint sizes (or will actually include the joints in the case if a kit).

Welcome to the bearmaking addiction!  bear_original

What helps me to make a decision is to look at the size of the arm and to pick a joint just a bit smaller in diameter than the width of the finished arm. So, if the arm on the pattern measures 5 cm, and the pattern has 5mm seams - leaving me with 4cm arms, I'll pick a joint that is around 3.5 cm wide.
