..think of it like unspun wool---it's just a big loose poof of shimmering strands---and then you iron it and it fuses together, it's called fusible fibers:

I love it!  I used it to make a hat for a Hallowe'en kitty!

You can melt it into various forms, it doesn't have to be just flat.

I had just bought a large amount [about 60+ pieces] from an eBay seller [tereantiques, I think the name was]---went in with a librarian friend of mine who is starting to get into making minis.  I think I wound up paying $70 for the lot of my stuff---I had a larger proportion of the sale than she did, but it wound up being approximately under $2 apiece.

I unfortunately thought it was the 3/32" pile or longer--so I was pretty bummed out when it arrived, the seller called it "vintage long pile" and so I thought it was...am so glad I saw this thread, I had used some of it previously and it wound up getting smooshed/compressed/flattened and I didn't know how to improve the appearance of it.  Toothbrush sounds great for fluffing it up!!

I still want to find some more of that long LONG vintage stuff---it's even longer than the Sassy longpile that Stephanie has.  I think it must be the Malden Mills stuff, but am not entirely certain.  I received a TON of it from a wonderful bear artist who is mentoring me, and her previous sources were exhausted.

This was a fun quiz!

http://www.blogthings.com/whatkindofame … speakquiz/

For the record, I live in Montana and have for the past 16 years [over half my life, I'm 26], but was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota---moved around as a kid and lived in Florida and Colorado before the final move to Montana when I was 10 [1990].

Here're my results---

Your Linguistic Profile:

55% General American English

20% Yankee

15% Upper Midwestern

5% Midwestern

0% Dixie

..how about everyone else?

Amelia

Sheri, from what I've seen, most glass eyes have a wire in the back so that they can be sewn into the bear's head---not entirely certain how that works since I've never used 'em, I think one strings the thread thru the loop and then just PULLS a whole lot---but anyways, I know the polymer fairy people also buy eyes for use in their creations, so that might be another venue for you to check out.

If you have ceramic clay, I suggest you check out eBay and search OOAK---that will give you tons of examples of what people are doing with clay, soft-sculpture, etc.

..ooooh, needle-felting!  I can do that!! w00t!

Amelia *all excited now*

..I design mine mini size as I can go and sew a prototype with not a lot of work to see how it looks---then tear it apart if I don't like the shapes.  Granted, I've never done much 'sides the mostly traditional head and legs and arms, but I'm hoping to take the bear designing class at the EbearZ and brush up on those skills.

Kim, I never thought of modelling it in polymer clay!  What a fantastic idea!!!  Thank you!

BIG congratulations, Nancy!!  How very exciting and fun!  Can't wait to see it!

...Anne, I'm in sorta the same boat---l was finishing up my bear scene yesterday, a tiny 1 1/4" FaeryBeary with removable wings and went upstairs to get something..when I came back down the teddy was GONE!!

I searched til about 12:15 am, and then decided I must list an already made bear---found his HTML and put him up.  I still haven't found my itsy-bitsy lemonade ted!  I blame the cats..they must've thought the bear was a delectable little toy [*sob!*]---possibly the small size is contributing to the MIA status, perhaps it's just under my nose..

Anyways, I finally got listed around 12:34 am of September 23rd, so I think you should be able to get in.  I love your little scene with the two little cuties!!  They are adorable!

Amelia

..oooh, lookit those blushing cheeks!  I wanna see, I wanna see!!!  Big tease!

Amelia

Okay---I typically use just black onyx beads for my beary eyes, but have of late been drooling over Intercal's selection of eyes---was contemplating some of the loop ended ones because one would think they would bury deeper into the head [I've noticed that if the black onyx eyes are too big, they have the unfortunate propensity to BULGE just a wee bit].  Am handicapped because I can't really see in my head how to put the looped eyes in.  Do you just place a thread thru the loop and pull the eyes in?

Plus, it seems like it would be easier to make ultrasuede whites of eyes if you had a flat loop side to smoosh flush up against the fabric.

THEN I saw the clear eyes that you make your own iris and etc., got really excited about those.  So now am wondering---certain artist bears look better with the "real" eye look, and some mini artists exclusively use the black eyes.  With the "real" eye you need an eyelid [cording] round the eye, right?  Am thinking it'd be good for me to challenge myself and try something new!

I would like to add that though I'm fairly new to Teddy-Talk, I use the search feature lots, and Winney's posts always come up with an extra bit of advice and fun encouragement when I'm trying new techniques or products, etc.  She is such a helpful person---and I say is because even though she may not be here on this plane of existence any more, she IS here on Teddy-Talk.

I am saddened to hear of her passing.  My deepest condolences to Larry and the family, and I hope she has one of those magic ladder-stitching needles to help her when she's making teddies up in Heaven.

Very Best,

Amelia

..I was about to chime in with the same thing.  Also, have you tried to just use the code for margins?  You stick in your table code..

<TABLE TOPMARGIN=0 LEFTMARGIN=0 MARGINHEIGHT=0 MARGINWIDTH=0>

..this link is full of helpful tips.

I used this photo---

purple.jpg

..and got these results---

p1004066616.jpg
Nakama Yukie          74%  highest percent of likeness, never heard of her..

..and the rest, most of whom I'd never heard of:
Zizie Ezette              71%
Jolin Tsai                  71%
Vanessa Marcil          70%  --I know her, she's from the TV show Las Vegas!!
Julia Stiles                70%  ---very cute!
Cate Blanchett          68%  --I'll take it!  She's lovely!
Anita Mui                  68%
Matsushima Nanako   68%
Penelope Cruz           66%  ---I'm not seeing it..
Leann Rimes             64%  [shrugs]

..then I ran my husband's photo---wanted to run this one but apparently they don't do upper body comparisons---

shirtless.jpg

--so I used this one instead--

dan.jpg

..and came up with some names I'd never heard of, some guys, some girls---Clark Gable, Tab Hunter, Heidi Klum, Ricky Martin.. my husband spotted the screen with his photo uploaded and goes, "What?  What are you doing now??"

*giggle*

That was fun, Judy!  Thanks for sharing!

Amelia

..oooh, I agree!  Marvelous fabrics!  ---disappointing about the show though!

I think my favorite is Ivan, Stephanie---what material are his footpads made from?

Amelia

..I just sent her an update on her swap beary---she emailed me back, but I hadn't seen her lately [but then I've been gone too!]---
