Aleta,
Great costumes but pardon me for asking, which one are you???  I'm thinking the Gangster girl, perhaps the ref.  You'll have to add pumpkin carving to the poker party next year.  You should see how competitive everyone gets.  I always set that up.  Everyone has to bring the pumpkin already carved and their own lighting.  We just put a bag by each jack-o-lantern, and give trick-or-treaters a slip of paper.  They drop it into the bag of their favorite pumpkin.  The trick-or-treaters really like it too.  This year's winner was Mario.  While we had more elaborate creations, the kids loved this one. ~ Alison

Joanne,
My daughter just turned 16 this week and she said one house wouldn't give her candy.  I told her that probably thought she was the old man's mom.  She's 5'10" and looks all grown up.  I never mind the teen agers trick or treating as long as they are in costume.  Kids grow up too fast anyway.  I say you can trick or treat until you graduate from high school.  We played bunco and another dice game called Farkle in the house and handed out candy.  This was one of our monthly game nights that we have with our friends.  We have a pot luck, play cards, dice or board games.  Kids are always welcome and get to play with the adults now that they are all older.  They used to have their own table and play Sorry or Go Fish. It's the big night out for our family.

Hello!  Did anyone dress up and carve pumpkins besides me?  Here are some pics from our festivities.  My husband and I were Donald and Daisy Duck, my daughter was Dorothy, my son was an old man (he was the hit of the neighborhood), and my friend Trish made a Robot costume with stuff that was laying around the house.  We all carved pumpkins and had Trick or Treaters vote.  I made a trophy for the first prize but didn't get a picture!  My friend has one on her camera.  When I get the picture I will post it because it was really cool.

Beary Fun,
That's great.  They are encouraging all children to be immunized.  I believe that most of the vaccine is going to schools all over the country to help keep our kids healthy.  Your mom or dad will probably have to fill out some paperwork so you can get the shot.  I know my kids will be able to get vaccinated at their school too and I already have them signed up.  Just remember to wash your hands and if you switch classrooms, you might want to bring some antibacterial wipes to school and wipe down the desk and chair before you sit down.  My kids change classrooms every hour so they clean the desk and chair each time.  My daughter poo-poo'd the idea until she got really sick and ended up with pneumonia.  Then, she got strep throat and finally has started wiping the desks down.  Now, both of my kids have friends that are borrowing their wipes and doing the same.  I guess I'm going to have to buy stock in Lysol Wipes!

Stay healthy!

There are results coming out on hospitalizations due to H1N1.  The #1 group is asthmatics, then diabetics and those with compromised immune systems.  Like I said in my previous post, please allow people with serious medical conditions have the first chance to get immunized.  If you are a healthy adult, wait a bit until those who need the shot immunization have a chance to get it.  Or, if they have the "live" nasal spray vaccine, go ahead.  Anyone with serious medical conditions must have the shot.  Wash 'yer hands, stay home if you're sick, eat healthy and get plenty of sleep!   - Alison

US Bears, glad I made you think of it.  I lived through kidney failure and a transplant, I really don't want to be taken out by the stinkin' flu!  So, when it becomes available, I hope I can get the shot vaccination.  I just think of all of those people on chemo, radiation, etc.  They need the shot too.  They are fighting more serious things and can't risk getting H1N1.

OH, I was so busy with my rant that I should have told you that my brother-in-law had a confirmed case of H1N1 2 weeks ago in Montana.  He is a healthy adult.  Yes, he got sick, is he fine, YES.  It was just like the regular flu.  In my opinion, no healthy adult should consider getting this vaccination until those who truly need it get it.

I have very strong opinions about the swine flu vaccination.  If you are NOT in a high risk group, HOLD OFF ON GETTING THE VACCINATION. There are many people, myself included, with severely compromised immune systems that need the shot (dead virus) vaccination as soon as it becomes available.  Most healthy adults that contract H1N1 will come through just fine.  Anyone taking immunosuppressants for any medical reason or is currently under going any medical treatment that compromises their immune system needs the vaccination.  Unfortunately, the US government continues to expand the list of those who should receive the vaccine.  They have now added people with diabetes, which may very well be 1/2 of the adult US population.  The vaccine is slow in arriving and there will not be enough for everyone.  Please allow those with serious medical conditions to have an opportunity to get immunized first!  And have some common sense and courtesy, if your sick, stay home!  Don't share even a cold.

Hugs!

Vicki,
This sound exactly like what happened to my friend's dog last month.  However, they did not diagnose her with a stroke they rather called it vestibular syndrome.  I am happy to say, that while she is not 100% and probably won't ever be, she has made a remarkable recovery.  For the first week, they took her out using the towel method, she began eating better and was finally able to walk on her own.  She started slowly, a couple of steps at a time and now is doing quite well.  She is a bit stumbly and still has her head tilt, but is greatly improved.  She goes for walks daily down to the end of the street and back and is enjoying life.  I hope that you have the same successful outcome.

Alison

Are you gluing the eyelids directly onto the eye or applying the eyelid after the eye is inserted.  I do applied eyelids on a regular basis and might be able to give you a couple of hints if that is the technique you are using.  I know you've moved on, but let us know what you are doing so we can help if you feel like going back to that bear.
