She is a beauty Nichole.
He is so Adorable! I love him. What a great cause too.
I think you did a fabulous job Jenny. Lindo is SO adorable. I love the feet. Did you felt them?
He is so adorable!
I do think he is a sweetie and I LOVE the color combination.
Thank you for the comments. Yes, my mom loved her and she wants me to make another one!
I got this bear as a kit but in my usual fashion, I changed a few things but since I was lacking time, I couldn't change a lot. I had no choice in the mohair that I got, so sparse it is! I am also addicted to dying fabric. I dyed Tillie in violet and I had another dying session last night with 3 other colors. LOL
I say do what you are comfortable with, Caroline. I tend to just jump in so I tried the mohair. I have since created my own pattern and I am working with a longer mohair bear now. I find that the sparse was much harder to work with. This particular fur is so thin it wants to go in all different directions, especially around the seams. I don't know, it just seems more fiddly to work with and it doesn't fluff up the way I need it to. I am having less issues with the long pile but I can imagine the scissor sculpting around the face can be challenging.
Lola is absolutely precious.
I think Fleur is fabulous. I really love the face. You did a great job.
Thank you Helen. That is a very sweet thing to say. I appreciate your comment, especially coming from a master bear crafter as yourself!
I have more on the way but a bit larger.
Thank you Pink. I don't mind the sparse mohair but it doesn't work for the look I am after. I really wanted a more fluffy bear. This was a good learning experience before dabbling into more expensive fur. I had fun doing it and I learned so much. I did take notes so I know what to watch for on the next bear. I love the combination of sewing and felting!
To think, I have had this kit for over a year and I never wanted to start it because I was afraid of cotter pins. The cotter pins were the least of my worries and were actually easy to install. I learned to never let fear get in the way of creativity!
Hello Friends!
Please meet Tillie. She is my first attempt at making a mohair bear and I am giving her to my Mom as a Mother's day gift. I was sweating bullets but she turned out ok. I wrote down some things I need to work on for the next bear. I also do not like the sparse mohair but that is what they sent me with the kit. I tend to like more fur for the type of bears I create. I have ordered my some more mohair and I have created my own pattern for all my future bears.
She is about 4" inches sitting and 7" inches long. Her face and paws are needle felted, she is 5-way cotter pin jointed and weighted with steel shot. I dyed the mohair myself -I created a mottled affect with the color so you will notice shade variances. Her flowers are wet felted accented with pearls. Her collar is made of vintage cotton lace. I wanted to dress her differently but I simply ran out of time.
I hope she puts a smile on you face. :)
Wow, I love your second bear. I love the fur. You are doing such a great job. I use to groom dogs YEARS ago so I have some skill with the scissors but for as giving advice, it is difficult for me to give that to you.I needle felt faces so I am not much of assistance. Use the "Library" which is the second tab next to the "Index" tab at the top of this page. There, you will find all kinds of information about scissor and thread sculpting for face. I see you already started a thread and you are receiving help as well.
I am impressed with your work and your nose. I have tried several noses and I am not even close to neatness like you are. You certainty have talent.
Wow! This is amazing for your first bear. I too, will have my first bear completed so I am by no means an expert. The only thing that I would do is see if you can remove the small pieces of mohair that are caught in your nose stitching. I would use some small tweezers to see if I could easily pluck them out. Is this also the first time stitching a nose? If so, you did an excellent job!
I can't wait to see more bears from you. You seem to have talent for it!
Thank you all for the kind comments. He will be the last felted teddy bear for awhile. I am off perfecting my mohair bear skills with felted faces and paws. I started a bear that has been sitting around for some time now and I just can't put it down!
Izzy is simply gorgeous!!!!
I have bought patterns from her Etsy shop and they are easy to make. https://www.etsy.com/shop/SpringtimeDesigns
It shows she is on vacation.
Some of her patterns are in PDF format.
I think he is adorable!
I know what you mean about needle felting the noses. I am hoping to go back to stitching some noses though. I really want to perfect it and it just takes time.
She is so precious! I love her! You make such beautiful bears!
I Just love this bear! You make the cutest pandas
!
Jane, this bear is absolutely gorgeous! I think you did a exceptional job on the face.
Your bears are amazing Jenny and this bear is only a reflection of your amazing work. I just love that face!
Oh Kay, he is so gorgeous. I do love him. He looks so soft too.
However we feel about them, people are buying them like crazy. He listed 12 of them on Saturday and they all sold within minutes by men and women. It doesn't make it right but he seems to have market for them and he is making money at doing it. I just don't know how people think of this stuff! But he has a following that seem to think they are great. I especially do not like the teddy bear with the handgun to his head. I have nothing against guns but to send a message about suicide and using a gun in this manner is a whole different matter. When we create things, shouldn't there be good instilled in it? All those poor teddy bears.
Hi Helen,
I have not had luck on Etsy either but I didn't try that hard. The collectors seem to be on Ebay and Bearpile. I have sold a few things on Etsy in the past but my bears sell on BearPile and Ebay. I am currently putting together a e-mail list so I can just direct people to my website. I would like to get off of Ebay as the fees are so high.
