OOooopppsss... Susan I think you are refering to my comment about ribbons.
And no, it was not directed at you.
I am very sorry if you felt that it was.
I do have a gripe about people showing off their ribbon, wether red, yellow or blue as awards.
As this is very deciving for others overseas.
I know it looks lovely to have alot of ribbons on websites, but to try to decieve the public into thinking that they are awards is very wrong, and if the bears are not up to standard it discredets all of the aussie bearmakers.
I hope this clarrifies my point of view.

I have a wardrobe where I hang them in cotton bags. They do need to breath so plastic is a no-no.
I also hang insect deterants in the wardrobe, but away from the fur, as any smell will transfur to the furs.
I also like to have satchets of lavender near the fur for this reason  bear_grin

Uuuuuuuuummmmmmmm..........my weekend is almost over.
I haven't done much as I am not 100% but, I have these cute little bear heads pleading for their bodies  bear_original
so I will try to finnish at least one today.
I have to starve myself tonight for blood tests and then again on Monday for an Ultrasound.
Soooo, think I will just take it easy.
I do have some WONDERFULL news though........
I posted that my daughter had a misscarage,,,,,,,but, it's looking like the baby is still hanging in there.
She is only six weeks pregnant.  So it's too hard to tell for sure.
here's hoping

Well Jennie, I have just had my first show and before I went, was in the same predicament as you.
What I ended up doing, as I have sold a quiet a few bears on ebay, I avaraged out the prices I got on ebay, and made the prices just under the average (as it was my first show).
I was lucky enough to talk to a Judge from a previous show, and I got her to check my prices.
She thought my mohair bears were too low.
I don't sell many mohair bears so I had no clue as to what to price them.
Her comment to me which might help you was ......... It is easier to go down in price than to raise your prices.
Sooooo.......... believe in yourself, your bears are GREAT.
And......... go for it  bear_grin

chris009av

OH wonderfull news Kat
how exciting for you  bear_grin
Funny, I just sold a house on Tuesday  bear_grin

I do think our system of judging here in Oz is basically a very good one.
The bears are judged on manly the Technique and design, giving a score out of 100.
Therefore you can say that the bears that have the blue ribbon were scored abouve 92% (roughly).
These bears are very sound in technique and design.
The winner of the section will be the highest scored bear.
Where I think it lets itself down is that the bears that score below this will get a ribbon representing there score, so a badly designed and poorly made bear will get a ribbon of another colour.
The critique sheets that the judges fill out are excellent for seeing where you can improve, and what you have done well.
Maybe the giving of ribbons is to emcourage the beginner, which is nice, but then maybe they should be in another section.

Debbie, it must have been such a relief to you to know she has settled in well.
Sounds like her new home is a caring one  bear_original

chris009av

Oh Jane, so sorry to here that you had to go to Hospital.
You take care of yourself wont you

chris009av

What a great idea Daphne, it sure would make sence not to give eveyone the ribbons.
It would make the rossettes all the more special.

chris009av

Oooooo Judi, I did enjoy looking at all your treasures.
Well done on the interview, I am afraid my poor eyes couldn't read the little writing.  bear_wacko
But, it looks quiet professional  bear_grin

chris009av

I haven't come across this, thank goodness.
But I know that the old and sick sometimes get sucked in to these things, they seem to prey on the people that can least afford it.

chris009av

I agree whole heartedly with this.
I have even seen one artist showing a red ribbon as an award.
All these ribbons look good to those that don't know the scoring system here in Oz.
At some shows everyone is given a ribbon of some colour, so how can they then put these up as winning an award is beyond me.

I had a bad morning this morning and it's only 8.30 am.
My daughter rang to say that she had a miscarrage  bear_sad
I am waiting to here back to say when she has to go for her scan  bear_sad
I am so glad this thread is here, cos it's nice to be able to share your troubles, but I wouldn't have posted otherwise.
Thanks Paula

OH you can blame those pesky bee's for my relationship.
I had rented a sweet little house after my marriage broke down, and I definitely wasn't looking for another relationship.
As it happens, I had found that a hive of bees had set up home on the side of the garage.  As my daughter is allergic to bees I contacted the council to see what they could suggest.  They gave me a number of a local bee keeper to ring, which I did.
I was worried about the cost of getting rid off the bees as I was under financial hardship at the time ( walked out with just about the clothes on my back, and no way was I going back)
Anyway, was I relieved when the bee keeper said that the cost to me would be a cup of coffee.
Over coffee he asked me out for chinese, I declined as no way was I going to get involved....hehehe....famous last words.
We have been together for 11years now  bear_grin

chris009av
