I use horse hair too. Also use the zig zag method for inserting.

I wasn't at home when the mailman came yesterday. There was a note in my mailbox that I have a package that I can pick up on Monday at the post office. We got abouot 12-14 inches of snow & hadn't done the sidewalk up to the house yet, so I don't blame the mailman for not even trying.
I hope it is my ornament!!!!! I am going to try to get over there on my lunch tomorrow.
Also, I am becoming a little worried about the ornament I sent out. It has been over 2 weeks now & not a peep from Canada (final destinaltion). Let's hope he makes his way home soon!

I recently decided to do a bear makeover on a few of my unadopted bears. These are bears that were going unloved due to my lack of experience when I started bearmaking. This bear had big Mickey Mouse ears at the top of his head. He had a cross expression. He wasn't exactly a bad bear but he just wasn't loveable.
I decided to give him a makeover, I took off his head, made his ears smaller, reset his eyes & gave him a new nose & mouth. He was is stuffed with excellior so he was a little light I gave him some weight so he was really hugable. He still has a needlepunched heart but now wears a key & a tag tht reads "KEY TO MY HEART".
He is available on my blog.
Brenda,
That really is a cute story! I myself love the colored lights & because I am the one to string the lights, I get to choose. What we do though is fold our tree up with the lights still on. We use shrink wrap or old panty hose to tie up the tree & put a plastic mattress bag on it & store it in the basement. We have found that storing it that way the lights stay from year to year & still work. Next tree though will be a pre-lit.
Have a beary merry!

Looks like we are in for a repeat of last year. These are picutres of the snow on our back deck. Have 10-12 inches back there at the moment. The weather forecast however is for us to get another 11-12 inches by Tuesday. Makes it difficult to get the Christmas shopping done. Do have to get to work too.
How is everyone else doing with the white stuff?
Amy
Am including a few pictures of out house at Christmas. We have a small Teddy Tree & a larger regular Tree. We have a little village with a train that runs around it. Also a couple of picture of Santas that I have made.
Ho Ho Ho!
Amy

Yes it was one heck of a turkey. When we went to pick it up there was a little boy there who only weighed 4 lbs. more!
It took me until Wednesday but I have finished making the 6 gallons of turkey stock, shepherds pies, & freezing the leftover turkey. We always make the most of all the leftovers. All of the serving dishes pots, pans etc are cleaned but I still have silverware to put away, and a few serving dishes & pans to re-store in basement and another year's feast will be completely done.

Hi All,
I just updated my blog with www.thecutestblogontheblock.com the site that was being discussed in the other string. Take a look a if you like. I just posted pictures from our Thanksgiving. We had 2 turkeys... one 16 lbs & one 36.5 lbs. What a difference! My only regret is that I did not take a picture of the big turkey when it was filling up my oven!
My blog is: www.mutztoots.blogspot.com
Thanks for looking!

To get the wings for this bear ( & several others) I went to an after Christmas sale. I bought all the dove ornaments that they had & plucked their little wings right off of them. Shhhhh! Don't tell Santa!
I wanna play! I wanna play!

What Costume?

If you like the idea of the plasic bags & rings you could also store those on a a hatrack, That is how I store all my patterns. I use shower curtain rings to put them on & hang them in plain site. Easier to see than in boxes.
Oh no!!!! How horrible. We had our house burgled about 4 years ago, although not to that extent. the burglar took our change can with all of our Christmas money in it. As it turned out, another friend was also burgled at about the same time. We put our heads together & figured out who it was.... the Best Man from our wedding!!!!!! He wound up being arrested & we bought a safe.
Anyway, it is sooooo creepy knowing someone had been on your house! I can't imagine what it is like to have to clean up the mess & catalog what is gone
Vicki, my heart goes out to you!

Enjoy your vacation!
I am soooooo happy you found your bear. Hold on to him as tightly with your hands as you do with your heart.
Hope you all have fun on your vacation!
Amy
Thank you all. I am very proud of my little critters!
Judi, Did you delete your post? I peeked at the posts on my lunch & don't see it anymore. I certainly would have loved to visit your animal entry & you are right, if my entries were not kept in locked cases, I would not be entering them either. These are all behind glass & locked up tight.
This lovely State Fair Queen has not told me her name yet. She has not decided but the forerunners are "Hallo, Winnie" or Candi Dyams".
I think you have all seen the others in the crew including
Bear Bones
Kati Wumpus
& I am sorry to say I can't find the phot of Yul B. Next
Will have to post when they come home with their ribbons!

As is our family tradition my Mom & I (and my brother recently) entered items in the Home Economics Division of the Wisconsin State Fair. We have been entering and going to the judging every year since 1979 and both have a many ribbons for the stuff we have entered.
This year was no different. My mom won 2 ribbons this year a second & an eighth for a tote bag and a purse. My brother had an astounding 48 entries in the photography section & won 15 blues & all sorts of lesser ribbons (I lost count).
I had 4 bears/critters entered and won 4 Blue Ribbons!!!!!! They all will now be on exhibit until the end of the Fair.
I hope everyone is taking advantage of local contests. Although as in our State Fair, the judge is not always a teddy bear judge, and wouldn't know mohair if it bit them. They have to be able to judge everything from tatting, spinning, costume making, to knitting & painting. The judges are usually Home Economics (usually college level) teachers with strong sewing backgrounds. Anyway, entering is a great way to get feedback on your sewing & assembly skills & just on the overall look of your bears. The only thing I cringe over is when some of the judges say that teddy bears are ultimately toys and should be entirely child safe sith no wired ribbons & safety eyes. All in all it is a fun way to get some critique of your work. My mom & I always enjoy our day watching what everyone else has entered
